More importantly, that will keep them from having the Wines, for a time, atleast. It will offset them getting WW bonus, if they don;t declair on us.

remember, if CFC loses all its units, the chance one of their 3-defense Riders losing to a 4-attack Ansar is quite high. CFC with a GA will be a far more useful ally than what they are now.

Very well put, MZ.

After the two of us making that argument with Trip for about an hour in chat, I'm glad you posted it.

MZ, it's clear that you've never read a single thing I've posted here... Not once have I said that we shouldn't include CFC in our invasion. In fact, I have been the one to twice talk with Donovan about this possibility and to see what they think and might be able to contribute.

Put an end to popups!

Good post MZ

I have but still this question of what our main front is going to be. What is the actual goal in this attack? Is is Ruhrpott or is it Parhemunde? If it is Ruhrpott, the regiments that go to Parthemunde are only meant to assist the troops at the Ruhrpott front and not the other way around.

Don't focus yourself on two goals in this attack, but on one target only.

Do you also have an answer on DeepO's question?

Thanks,

Aidun

[20:22] [Arnelos] heh
[20:22] [Trip] the only thing they'll be good for is distracting GWT and giving them other headaches
[20:22] [Arnelos] what ARE we going to do with CFC then?

Timeline of Possible Events Got spare money?

IMHO, I think many people are missing one point with this small ivnasion force somewhere else: You're talking about invading into the midst of GWT's productive core, possibly moments after they are invaded by us on a sensitive spot. If they have no iron connected, they will connect it within 1 or 2 turns. Meaning that they will immediately upgrade whatever horses are built in their core (as Ansars are quicker to move to the front), so that their core will be saturated with Ansars. Also, all builds will change to Ansars immediately, which over the course of those 2 turns means that excatly their core will build fresh units.

If you land 4-6 knights in their core, 2 turns after the main invasion, you will be met with 10-20 Ansars that can reach that invasion force. Those knights doesn't stand a chance. And this is assuming that the moment the main invasion starts, GWT will remove all their defenses from their core, and towards Rurhpott. Those 10-20 Ansars are freshly build, or upgraded.

So my view: either you attack Partemunde with sufficient force (at least as large as the Rughrpott attack), and preferably on the same turn, or you don't invade there at all. Since there is no option of getting such a force, it will be better to group our forces into one attack.

And second view: Either you mask the iron cut perfectly (meaning both road and mine present whenever GWT can look), or don't bother and spend workers on something that is only a half-solution.

DeepO

I think I'll attempt to answer this (And this)
quote:

[20:22] [Trip] they'll probably get seen and screw the whole thing up anyways

Here is a timeline of possible events
D-6: Gift Education to CFC (if GWT doesn't have it before this time).
D-5: Gift Astro to CFC, they do what ever upgrades that they can. IF they don;t have the funds for the upgrades, then we can give them Education now and Astro next turn.
D-4: 1 turn to Nav. All groups are ready to set off
D-3: Navigation. We gift Nav to CFC. Boats move
D-2: Boats moving
D-1: Group A ready to land next turn. CFC is still in deep Ocean waters. If GWT hasn't spotted us, we should have no problems.
D-day: Group A lands. CFC might get spotted this turn, but not likely.
D+1: Beachhead city built, Ruhrpott (FP) strike. Possible other strikes at Balkin and Elfenhain. CFC lands.
D+2: FP groups go for other possible target, depending on what is available. CFC starts their strikes. Parth Group Lands Ready.
D+3: Parth Group Strikes Lands. FP groups go for other possible target, depending on what is available. CFC causes more problems.
D+4: Parth Group Strikes. FP groups go for other possible target, depending on what is available. CFC causes more problems.
D+5: Everyone DeeDeeMao's.

Now, the possible GWT responce:
D-10: sees that we have cut our Iron.
D-6: if GWT/GCA have Theo before this turn, they might notice the cost of Education going down.
D-5/4: if GWT/GCA have Edu before this turn, they might notice the cost of Astronomy going down. Sees us reconnect our Iron.
D-3: If they notice, they will see that they can trade with us & CFC, knowing that we have Nav (This has been verified).
D-Day: Sees Group A on the beach. GWT changes production, possible Iron cut, rushes what is available to rush, which won't be ready the next turn.
D+1: Groups A/B strikes. Sees CFC group on the beach. Reconnects Iron, Upgrades Units rushed last turn (can't move). IT's likely, that they would be moved closer to the FP/CFC units before Upgrading.
D+2: Groups A/B causes more problems. CFC cuts Wine/North-South road. Possible Civil Unrest in some cities. Sees Parth Group on beach. Upgraded Units move this turn.
D+3: Sees Parth Group on beach. Parth Strike. Groups A/B & CFC causes more problems.
D+4: Parth Strike. Groups A/B & CFC causes more problems.
D+5: sees everyone gone.....

I'm not going to comment any further without seeing a map with Partemunde indicated on it. I've tried digging up some old maps, but there are very few available. And I don't have access to the save.

Not that it matters much when #2 has already been decided upon, of course (which is in my view a better option then #3, no matter what)

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Well, Well, I have decided to get off the fence on this one.

Although Im still a proponent of do not split your forces, I believe the secondary attack at Parthe should be a go.

We have to take risks if we are going to win this one.

MZ and Trip. Lets not go much further on the he said, he said.

Lets focas on making this operation a success.

*con would love be a fly in the GWT forum, after the THIRD force lands in there homeland*

I know we are corrodinating this with CGN. Have we discussed with CGN the possibility of at least a limited offensive during this period? Is that even feasible for them Trip? If not do we want to discuss this with them? I can take the lead on that if you want. I have not talked to miccofl since last week.

we can STILL debate whether the 6 extra knights is used for the main strike or for Parthemunde.

There are good arguments for either frankly and all of them are based on the pretty biggie unknown of GWT's expected resistance. This issue needs more debate IMO.

E_T, thanks for the summary. To the rest who apparently understands everything, especially the consuls who already know what is to be decided but tell us they do not :sarcastic: :

But why land the Parthemunde Group 2 turns after the Ruhrpott landing of Groups A and B? If Ruhrpott is our main goal, why then land the Parthemunde group later? Landing it later doesn't help the Ruhrpott attack much right?

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE WITH THIS ATTACK? base the timetable of the various attacks by the three groups on your MAIN GOAL. Everything that is not involved in the main attack is to assist the groups involved in the main attack. There is NO USE in lettling them attack afterwards.

Please answer my questions and comment on what I say, then so that I can assist in this too!

Thank you very much!

FYI: Yes we have. It was a decision made by Trip and myself during one of the many periods where you weren't paying any attention to this forum or the issues going on with this save.

Frankly, the reason why Plan #3 is not possible among the #1, #2, and #3 plans for expenses that E_T forwarded is the following:

Apolyton Money + CFC Money + CGN Money < Money required for Plan #3

In effect, the decision was really made for us.

For Plan #2, we would need Apolyton to spend ~800 gold, CGN to provide ~300 gold, and CFC to provide about 900 gold. CGN said they could provide up to 360 gold and CFC said they could provide up to 1000 gold, so we can tweak the numbers from each if CGN cities fall faster than expected and we need more from CFC.

Reason #1: timing. Simply, they can't get their in time
Reason #2: timing. IF GWT does have forces in that area, they will have moved them away from it, to go after the other 2.
Reason #3: timing. This group, IF there is a position from them to launch from (still remains to be seen, we will find out in a few turns), in the north, would get to that area 3 full turns before they could be launched from any other point in our know (to both us and GWT) maps. So, they might suspect a possible strike in this area, BUT it would be much sooner (3 full turns) than they would anicipate.

An oppertunity like this, only comes once. Let's try to make the best use of it that we can.

The 3 different plans dealt ONLY with what forces we could gather together, in the timeframe that is required for this, and the monies that would be needed to fully equip them.

THIS IS COMPLETELY SEPARATE from the issue of IF we send some of those units to Parth or not.

I still like plan #3. It's more ambitious and has a bigger payout; which is what we need right about now.

The risk to reward ratio on option #3 is the best for us in our current situation with the way the alliances are drawn and the resources available to the various teams and the condition/placement of GWT troops as of now.

Read above.

I'll restate:

Apolyton Money + CFC Money + CGN Money < Plan #3 Expenditure

In other words, Plan #3 simply is not possible.

If we could afford it, it might be worth considering.

I figured with an expense of only 288 more gold that we'd be able to scrape that up somewhere along the way...such as Barb camps, flea markets, and yard sales.

Here's the problem.

As things currently stand, Apolyton is going to spend every penny we have, CFC will have about 100g left and CGN, if they're lucky, will have about 60g left (could be less if they lose cities faster than expected). With only 160g to spare, we can't afford the upgrade.

Astro next turn - Will be gifting to CFC 2 to 3 turns before we get Nav (turns 184/185, 680/690 AD), so that they can do whatever boat upgrades that will be needed. Gifting Education the turn before....

Navigation on turn 187 (710 AD), Gifting it to CFC same turn. Everyone moves into open Ocean

D-Day - we land Group A on turn 191 (750 AD).

D+1 (turn 192, 760 AD) - We land Group B and take out FP.

All others can be figured out from the timeline posted here - this timeline of events
