Oh, Narck! You didn't read my posts like I adviced you to, did you? I didn't comment on the stickyness of the thread at all. Go back a while and you'll see...

And the Karen Mills threads have been around long enough already for everyone to see.

You sure didn't comment on the stickyness of the thread at all, Legman. Nope, not at all I assume you think above comment doesn't even hint towards the stickyness of the thread, hmmmmmm? ....

Lastly, I would like to mention that I find it more than a little weird that this whole debate started AFTER the thread in question was "de-topped". You could have chosen to say something about it while it was topped (as I'm sure you noticed it before), yet you chose not to. Why not?
<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>oh, it's a coincidence. you see, Legman is a sensitive man. He cant stand being inforced to get a thread on the top of the forum. It's brakes the whole sense of balance in his worls. Threads are supposed to be listed by date! How can a thread stay at the top. And Legman has limits, he is a not a superman. When he saw the thread by AH he just broke into tears! A soulmate! At last someone with the same sensitivies as him! Well, the rest is history....

anyway, i see legman posting

but you did.
you quoted AH saying: Lancer, charity works best when it isn't inflicted on people.
AH believes that we inflicted charity on people by top-ing the thread. you said Amen to that....

Oh, you've done it now MarkG. That's the worst piece of crap I've seen posted anywhere in months. Do you actually expect me to debate seriously with you after this? Disappointing, very disappointing - and it didn't even involve Greece... Ha ha!

Narck,

How very noble of you to edit your post after I so delicately touched on the subject of it being an uncalled for statement. Very gentlemanlike indeed

I maintain that I did not comment on the stickyness of the thread. I commented on the thread being around long enough in the first place. Hence my suggestion of limiting a future Christmas thread to an announcement including information on where to send possible donations. I still think it would suffice.

I'm beginning to repeat myself a little to much even for my own taste here, so unless you want to launch further attacks on my disgusting (sorry, very disappointing) views, I think this immensely fruitful debate has come to a conclusion.

No way in Hell I'm replying anymore to MarkG's severely intellectually challenged posts. Not even on non-Greece-related topics like this one. Ha ha!

perhaps you can do your part of a serious debate and then i can take example Legman.....

as you can see, we the naive people who are trying to help someone organize a "*strange*" charity thread dont know much about serious debates...

One last point I need to make:

Narck, editing your posts like you've done in this thread several times without clearly stating what you edited/edited out is basically a sign of you not being able to stand up for your views.

And I mean this in the kindest, most helpful way imaginable.

When I edit my posts, it's because I need to fix spelling errors, or change the wording of the text because I'm not happy with the way it is put there. How you would like to see it, is your business, but I sure as hell am not going to bother explaining in an edit msg what I was editing. Waste of time.

I NEVER edit out comments after someone else commented on it.

I understand this is what you were implying that I did here. You and I both know that I didn't. This makes you either a liar or just someone who doesn't understand what he's talking about.

My post which called your views disgusting is still in here, and your post which stated that was uncalled for is there as well. I didn't edit away anything.

But thanks for trying to imply that I did do that, anyway It shows me exactly the type of person you are.

Narck,
From the way you mentioned it earlier, I figured you'd edited it. Didn't realize you were talking about a different post. And I didn't check before posting. My bad. But still you wouldn't care to apologize for calling my views disgusting when you now admit that they are infact just disappointing to you??

You can still comment all you like on my so-called very disappointing views - just make sure you have the necessary documentation to back up your comments.

You say that I put sarcasm in several of my posts. To the best of my knowledge, the post above was the first in which I ever used sarcasm. So either you know my posts better than I myself do, or this was just another example of you making undocumented accusations. I wonder which one it is...?

The only thing worth reading in this thread is this original comment by legman - it is a good point - the rest of the thread has just degenerated into personal attacks.

So, perhaps, Lancer, you could tone down a bit on the supposed "self-rightousness" in your threads - don't make such a big deal of the donations when someone makes them - this should please them.

I respectfully disagree with those who object to making the thread sticky. There are several people who, although they would probably be interested in the thread, have never even looked at it. Until recently, I was one of them. When the thread is sticky, these people start to wonder what is so special about the thread. They look at it, and find that they are interested.

For those who have no interest in the thread, there is a simple solution: Look at it once to see if you are interested, then never look at it again. If everyone looks at the thread just once, those who are interested can help, and those who are not need never think about it again.

<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>i'm an idiot so you'll have to explain it to me

1) AH says that people were forced to donate by a top-ed thread
-- perhaps then all those special "marathons" should be banned

2) Legman agrees, and says that making an appeal for charity on site like Apolyton creates "mixed feelings" to him
-- perhaps then we should put a box for money to the related person outside her current location, and then let people from around the world find it and donate...
perhaps we should not make public appeals to people's sensitivism over a certain level cause we remind them how they should act....

3) Legman then says that charity is a personal matter.
-- how is that connected with an thread on a internet site? one could easily message Lancer privately and not publicize his donation

so, please explain me how this is a valid point....

If I could just try to cut through all the cr#p here for just one second. To me, having this thread stuck to the top of the OT is an irritation and inappropriate. Its akin to cyber panhandling. Do I mind if people participate in this thing Lancer and Narck have going? No. Do I think we should all have it in our face all day long? No.

As for a lot of the other silly and emotional comments on this thread, all I'll say is if this thing is legit, you should practice what you preach here as well as with the family you are trying to help.

LOL, I love the way people defending the sticky thread have turned the complaint about it into some sort of attack on motherhood, wheeling out the impoverished family when it suits them to blacken the reputation of those who have simply objected to it being stuck at the top of the forum.

Some of the attacks on Legman by the self styled "charity workers" have been quite viscious and hardly bring credit on their project. It makes you wonder what they are really about Their charity certainly doesn't seem to extend to their fellow posters

Got spare money?

"Practice what we preach here as well as with the family you are trying to help"

Is AH saying he's getting psycological abuse from his relatives and needs us to build him a house?

Whatever...

Mark, Narck, friends who have spoken up for the Karen Mills threads, besides getting a couple candidates for the next 'Apolyton Whiner' this thread is not worth the electrons needed to keep it around. Thanks for supporting our effort, and for the deep feelings shown here. I think Karen has some really good people devotedly on her side.

That's the silver lining on this cloud.

<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>Do we really need to stay friendly to a person whose suggestions would imply that the project would definitely fail? I am here to make sure the main goal is reached (you know, Karen Mills having a roof over her head), that's what's important. What's not that important is to be friendly to a few people who IMO seem to be too selfish to allow 1 small thread in 1 forum to be sticky. That smells like selfishness and I don't like that.

Is AH saying he's getting psycological abuse from his relatives and needs us to build him a house?

Mark, Narck, friends who have spoken up for the Karen Mills threads, besides getting a couple candidates for the next 'Apolyton Whiner' this thread is not worth the electrons needed to keep it around. Thanks for supporting our effort, and for the deep feelings shown here. I think Karen has some really good people devotedly on her side.

There you go again Lancer. Can we dispense with the emotional blackmail, character assasination and other clap trap and stick to cases? My initial post made crystal clear that I am not making a judgement on the merits of the no doubt heart warming to some Karen Mills appeal. My objection is to a sticky thread being at the top of OT forum.

I would have complained whatever the topic of the sticky thread. The fact that it was the Karen Mills thread is incidental to my complaint, it is neither here nor there, so most of the comments on this thread to date are irrelevant. Can you just step back, take a few deep breaths and get your mind around that? Then reply if you have something relevant to say.

Increase Your PM Length

having a dozen sticky charity threads would definitely be annoying, just like having twenty coffeeshop threads would be. one thread, on the other hand... and it's *easier* to avoid looking at when it's sticky. just put a thin piece of masking tape over your screen in the appropriate spot. ^_^ if your objection is someone getting special treatment for their thread, i suppose anyone is able to petition markg for similar treatment.

almost any other charity you could mention is already well-known enough that exposure on apolyton would be of insignificant benefit, or else you wouldn't trust the thread author with your money. so i don't foresee this sort of appeal for money happening much on the ot other than in karen-related stuff.

AH, if you really wish to dispense with the character assasination then you really should just stop posting. You are your own character assasin.

"To some" AH?

I don't really have to add anything to that AH. You show to the world who you are.

Anyway, I'm not wasting another moment of my time on you. Narck, might I suggest forgetting this? They won't answer your questions anyway. Forget them my friend. They're not worth your time.

Ahhhhhhh... I'm getting tired of this...

Peace on earth...

Kiss for AH ( )
Kiss for Legman ( )

You guys can complain all you want to, for all I care, since it's quite obvious to me that it won't make any difference. Therefore this whole debate is fruitless to begin with.

And for that reason I'm not going to go into this matter again

Hugs 'n Kisses,
Narck
