Resignation Put an end to popups!

Well, I feel the time has come. Just a couple weeks before the end of my second term, but if I leave now then I have less to worry about. And no, this isn't just a sudden outburst in response to a certain recent event. I've been wanting to leave now for some time.

At this point in time I have other things which I feel are more important to address.

Current issues are firmly in hand, matters are under control and things are running smoothly. We have many active and dedicated members, so my participation is no longer necessary.

I am no longer having fun.

So, it's time for me to leave.

Good luck in the rest of the game. Win this one for Apolyton. And please don't win by a UN vote.

Let me be the first to say, that I'm sorry to see you go. You and I have not always seen eye to "Big Hairy Eye", but we have gotten things done, together. Your Ideas and My Implementations of those Ideas have been very profitable for this team. I feel that we are losing a vital member, part of our "Brain Trust", to give it a name.

I wish you luck with Firaxis, being a playtester/QA person. Don't let them put out a poor version of Civ 4, without it being tested quite a bit.

Please try to atleast lurk around somewhat, to see how things go.

Had this been posted yesterday, or earlier today, I'd probably understand and wish you the best.

However, I know quite well this is your response to this incident with E_T and this is your way of making a tantrum out of it.

No offense but this "piss me off and I'll leave" attitude is not only childish but goes against all the hours you have dedicated to this team and your willingness even as of a few hours ago to continue until the end. And you're not the first Consul who has done this (nye did it and later reconsidered).

Anyway, I ain't buying it.

Regardless of the reason for Trip's resignation, he is a very talented member of this team and has been personally responsible for much of the planning and decisions that have gotten us here today.

IMO, the only team member who's resignation would be more disruptive to us would be if E_T decided to step down.

This is a rough blow. My hope is that Trip will still be active and involved, just not as personally responsible as before.

Just to qwell any murmers...

I am not leaving because of any personal disagreements between myself and E_T or any other member. This is a decision I've been thinking about for a while, and something I need to do. I have an important job coming up and I'm moving away and I don't know how much access to the internet I will have. Therefore, I feel its best for the team and myself.

I'll believe this when I see you quit CGN in the C3C ISDG.

I'll believe this if I had seen this thread any other day rather than the one (just hours after) you and E_T duked it out in that other thread.

I'll believe it if I had not seen all your exitement about this brilliant new plan to strike at GWT in just 15 turns, a plan not only conceived, but which is now being implemented and may very well be the key to success for our team in this demo game.

At least be honest to us and say the real reasons you are quitting when your participation and enthusiasm during the last couple of weeks is totally contrary to what you are saying now.

And sorry for being such a spoil sport, and sorry for these posts probably pushing you more towards resignation rather than reconsideration, and what worse, sorry if these posts sound more like an indirect begging for you to stay (which is partly true I admit), but like I said before, I just ain't buying it.

As the MoI for CGN, I need only to be able to draw up plans and post orders. This can be done any time any day. As a consul I am required to do a number of things including play turns which I can't guarantee I'll be around for. I cannot continue the considerable team efforts which I have tried to put forward - coordinating with people, running stride with E_T watching economic matters, drawing up plans, engaging in and posting chats with other teams, being available in the chatroom to discuss things, drafting long-winded threads about everything under the sun... I can't do it any more.

On the CGN team I am not required to participate in chats, I am not required to play turns. Discussion is minimal. I post my plans, they get done.

I could be gone tomorrow without internet for 2-4 weeks. Would you prefer I just vanish without saying anything? I haven't said anything prior to this because I didn't know if I would have to leave or not. But now it's almost a done deal.

Have you even seen how inactive I have been? I haven't played a turn in a couple weeks. I haven't been at all involved in the war planning since the first couple threads were posted. And a lot has changed with the plan since then. Details have been hammered out completely independent of me. The Parthemunde strike (which I still disagree with) is basically a done deal. I resisted it back when it was first suggested, but I haven't lately. If I was the "same ol' Trip" then I'd be pounding that idea into the ground with all my might.

I haven't even posted all that much. The only thing I've done is been in the chatroom, and that's only because classes ended recently. The extent of my efforts was when the invasion was first suggested a couple weeks ago by Sharpe and I posted a few threads. Since then I haven't been around or done much at all, which I unfortunately must admit. Even if I had been staying things would probably not be too bright for my 2nd reelection if there had been a contender.

Here's my honest answer for you. The recent issue with E_T pulled the trigger, but the gun was already there and the ammo was already loaded. I can't do everything and a full-time job which will be my priority (rather than this game, which has been my priority for the past year, for better or worse). Even E_T sees things as they are. We were recently discussing housing options earlier today.

I never thought I'd be pointing out my inactivity in this game...

But as I said before, believe what you want. There's only so much I can say, and apparently nothing will convince you no matter what it is. What do you want me to do to convince you, scan you documents from my shrine about how I've become a Buddhist monk and am moving to Tibet?

You're suffering from the same fault that dooms the theory of psychological egoism, MZ. You can't see things being any other way than how you believe, meaning there is no opportunity for your beliefs to even have the possibility of being false.

But your opinion is your perogative.

Tripster - I did a similar thing recently. Too many Consulships/Presidencies wears on you and really sucks on what you're SUPPOSED to be doing in RL. Me and my supervisor (and my ex ) know that all too well.

As it was, I just DIDN'T want you to have to deal with him, coming out of the Closet.....

If you have any info that you can send him, on finding fairly cheap & good housing, with Reliable Roommate, e-mail them to him at NeroTrip@comcast.net

Good luck, Trip.

I'm glad for the dedicated service you've made to this team over time. I think you know quite well that, despite anything else, you have greatly impressed many of us with your talent and your dedication over the previous months.

I have to admit that I had some reservations when you first became Consul. You have done much over the past few months to dispel most such reservations and prove just how good you are. We certainly haven't agreed on everything and I'll admit that at times you frustrate the cra* out of me, but you've been a dedicated team member and an enormous asset.

So thank you for your service and best of luck in future pursuits.

Sorry if my posts were misinterpreted. What I was getting at is that whatever frictions people have amongst themselves, they are certainly workable and should never be reason enough to resign. Trip knows quite well I have sided with him very frequently and even when I haven't it's because out of this whole mess the team as an entity is the one to benefit from multiple, and even conflicting opinions. In short, more brains are better than one, even if the brains hate each other.

That said considering your consulate was just about over (what, less than 2 weeks?) you could've at least just said you weren't planning on running again... plus, at the rate the save is being played it's not like we'd be getting it more than 2-3 times during that lapse

But well, I won't say goodbye, since I know you won't resist being just a lurker, I will instead misquote MacArthur:

"Old HungryMen™ never die, they just fade away..."

Some times you can be a real pain in the arse, but your contributions to this team have been tremendous and appreciated.

I for one will miss your input. I sincerelt hope you get settled in Maryland SOON, and again are able to contribute to the team.

While your getting internet sorted out in Maryland just spend a lot of time at Zargons house drinking his beer and surfing the net

Good luck Trip. I'm sure we will miss your input in this game. Your analyses and war plans have impressed me every time.

About disagreement I can only quote the saying we use here: "High trees catch much wind". Some stand up and come with plans and arguments, they catch the critics, not those who stay small and hide in the grass. You are a high tree, one of the tallest and despite all the wind you caught, you remained standing. For that we respect you. Thanks for what you did for us.

Not Firaxis, their sister company. But I will be doing a lot of work with them.

I'm hoping to transfer there at some point in time, but we'll see how that shapes up.
