To find the Northwest Passage

Anyone got a full copy of the Tampa Bay Tribune editorial:
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - The Tampa Tribune apologized to its readers and the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday after mistakenly running an editorial saying the NHL team had lost Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final.
Publisher Gil Thelen said it was unclear how the mistake was made Monday night as the newspaper rushed to press following the Lightning's 2-1 victory over the Calgary Flames in Game 7.
The Tribune had prepared two editorials - one for a win and one for a loss. But despite placing the correct editorial in its computerized page-making system, the one prepared for a loss appeared in the newspaper's 275,000 copies.
Thelen and Tribune editor Frank Denton said the newspaper was investigating the error to make sure it doesn't happen again.
Editorial page editor Rosemary Goudreau issued a statement on the newspaper's affiliated website, TBO.com, telling readers "We took a puck in the gut this morning."
The incorrect editorial that appeared in the paper opened, The Tampa Bay Lightning didn't win the National Hockey League's Stanley Cup last night. But the team had a championship season nevertheless.
The correct editorial, which didn't get in the paper, lauded the Lightning and credited the team for generating pride and excitement in the community.
A similar mistake happened to the New York Post last October when early editions of the paper carried an editorial bemoaning the Yankees' loss to the Boston Red Sox in the American League playoffs. But the Yankees had staged a late rally to tie Game 7, then won in extra innings.

Setting aside the whole "goal" / "no goal" huff (that new evidence still isn't conclusive, Asher -- all you've proven is that the puck was in fact off the ice, which only confirms the problem of locating the puck in 3D space off the 2D image in the infamous replay photo and its relation to the plane of the goal line), Calgary's odds of getting back to the final any time soon aren't very good. Since 1990, only three teams that have lost in the Stanley Cup finals have managed to get back there -- the North Stars (lost 1991, won 1999), Red Wings (lost 1995, won 1997, 1998, 2002) and the Devils (lost 2001, won 2003). A lot of the others haven't even come close (Blackhawks, Kings, Canucks, Panthers, Capitals, Sabres, Hurricanes, Ducks).
It's such a psychological blow to the team, to have spent so long working so hard and then have it all be for naught -- very, very hard to rise back up to that level for the full 82-game schedule and playoffs again.

I think it's more about the level of competition.
And what happened in the past may not mean anything. We just witnessed a generation shift. The new stars like Iginla, Richards and St Louis are taking over. Tampa's win and Calgary's great run will change how other teams are coached. And of course the new CBA, whatever it is, will change things.
