Wow, you are one of the most virulent homers I have ever seen.

At BEST, that freeze-frame (which I have seen many a time, don't you worry) gives the puck a 50/50 chance of being in. All other angles say 'no'. The puck could have been in the air, if you watch how it's moving beforehand, thus creating an illusion of depth perception.

The referee did not stop the play, it went on for a while after that. You cannot expect the league officials to call that a goal when they have, at best, a 33% chance (that's 1 of 3 camer angles) of being correct in that assumption... ESPECIALLY when the on-ice officials don't stop the play, let alone call it a goal.

Please, stop pissing on your team's accomplishment by being so petty.

Sitting on the puck

Oh yes, another example of why I love him.

Did you see him this game intentionally lay down on the puck and sprawl out to delay the game when the puck was in their end? If that's not a delay of game penalty, it sure as hell should be.

Yes, that's exactly what I was referring to. It's called sacrificing your body to kill a penalty, and it's part of what made Andreychuk so valuable to his team.

The other angles couldn't see the puck, that's not saying "no".

And please explain to me where you get the 50/50 bullshit. To do so:
1) Show me how it is NOT on the ice, when it is clearly wedged under his pads/skate.
2) Show me how it is NOT over the line, when there is clearly ice on both sides

If the puck would've been in the air, it would be a perfect circle, not having parts of the goalie's pads on it. If it was in the air, it would've bounced off at the angle of reflection, and not laterally like the replays clearly show.

I've already said I'm proud of them, and they did accomplish a lot, but they were robbed. Plain and simple.

It's called being a cheap f*ck, especially when you're playing in a game with notoriously inept refs. As you may expect, though it was BLATANT and obvious to anyone watching, they didn't call a penalty on it.

The reffing has been terrible.

Got spare money?

I would feel much more sympathy if the phantom goal was to tie rather than take the lead. As it was, Calgary was still in position to take the cup in that game and could have played much better in this one.

Calgary, join the list of teams who could have clinched a series but lost the game to a screwball play and couldn't put it back together for the final.

1985 Cardinals
1986 Red Sox
2003 Cubs*
2004 Flames

*NLCS

And undoubtedly some more I'm forgetting

God Cherry said it wasn't a goal, if only because 5 minutes later is no way to award a goal for the Cup, and I have to agree with him. But Calgary still got robbed.

Wow...its a good time to be a Tampa Bay fan, what with a first Superbowl win a few years ago and now a first Stanley cup win.

Could Tampa Bay become as much of a sports town as Boston, New York, or Chicago?

From CBC:
quote:
In Calgary there was a collective sigh as the city's hockey heroes lost their first playoff round of the year. But there were also loud cheers for a team that achieved much more than had been expected of them.

The Calgary team went into the playoffs as decided underdogs, but knocked off the top three teams in their conference, including the powerful Detroit Red Wings, before meeting the eastern champions, who finally knocked the western team off their perch.

But along the way the Flames tied the record of 10 wins on the road in the post-season and after Toronto and Montreal bowed out in the second round, they became the favourites of many Canadians from coast to coast to coast.

With the NHL facing a possible labour dispute that could shut down its 2004-2005 season, the league must have been hoping for a thrilling end to this season to boost disappointing TV ratings in the U.S. It got its wish.

The series had more ups and downs than a roller coaster ride. Through the first six games neither team could manage two wins in a row; two games were decided in overtime.

Both teams were backstopped by incredible goaltenders; Miikka Kiprusoff for Calgary and Nikolai Khabibulin for Tampa Bay. Each had spectacular playoff runs, with both men recording five shutouts, and unbelievably stingy goals against averages.

The players may have been nervous heading into game seven, but so were many fans. Don Hardy, the head of the Tampa Bay Lightning Fan Club, was feeling the pressure. "I mean I've lost weight, I don't feel good, I'm running a fever. I mean I'm not a hockey player but I'm so much into the game it's exhausting me."

Even though they lost, the city of Calgary says it will hold a parade through the city on Wednesday to honour the Flames.

And I will say, as far as playoff runs go, the Flames playoff run this year was absolutely incredible. Best I've ever seen.

I just really hope for a lot of reforms in the future, especially w.r.t officiating and hopefully getting some technology in there to ensure the bullshit never happens again.

Aside from that, the Flames' series were all spectacular. And as a fan, that's what I enjoy, even if it means in the end we have to settle for second place on a technicality.

Seriously though, I wasn't completely serious about that...though, you have to admit, Tampa Bay coming out of nowhere and getting two championships in 3 years...Philadelphia fans must be crying into their cheesesteaks. They couldn't even get a sure win out of a supposedly unbeatable horse!

Yeah!

Except it was a charging penalty...

That wasn't a high stick. It was a bullshit call because it was a freak accident, two Flames zipping around the net at different times hit him in such a way that he ended up falling face-first into the boards. The first Flame nicked him, forcing him to stumble, and milliseconds later the other collided, sending him into the boards.

I'm waiting for BK to do his little parade and irony dancing.
