	Lists ??? Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

ok its end of may almsot and time for anupdate for june..

Howver there has been much debate over whether the lists sere any purpose other than spam.

so to gauge wha tinterest if any there is i am running this poll.

if there is interest i wil lcontinue todo them , butif not it wl lrelease me from a lot of work.

i not sure if anyone understands how time consuming it is doing the lists each month. There is no direct way t oget the numbers i need other than cutting and pasting them manually from apolyton members lists into my spreadsheet. Then i have to sort the old list and new list to make sure no names hav echanged and tha tno one has been banned therefore making their name not appear on apolyton list. Once that done, i have to cut and paste my newly sorted list to my main sheet on my spreadsheet and then resort by al lthe various sorts i do.

so please cast your vote here , will leave open till end of month ...

Continue with the lists. Just because Jam doesn't appreciate them doesn't mean that the information contained therein is worthless. There are many, many people who find the lists entertaining and useful.

Wel lwork had begun on June lists. organising a few things and putting thoguhts in place...

Subjects to include but not limited to ..

Date to Emporer Status.

Date to Deification

Date to Mingification !@!!!

PPD List (Spammer of the year !)

monthly PPD (Spammer of the Month)

If i have time and extend the lists perhaps a date to King!!

List of the New Dietys for the month.

List of New Emporers for month.


I am open to any other suggestions, and depending on whether it can b edone or not i will do my best....

most errors are simply human so sometimes need to be pointed out to rectify them...

Yes, continue them. They're good to keep track of how active Apolyton (and certain of its members ) are. And I just plain like that stuff because I'm a stat junkie by nature.

I've voted now.

I'm not against the lists per se but I don't think they require more than 700 comments each month. The best solution would be if after Ras posted the lists they were locked (and stickied for a month?) to avoid this insane filthy spamming.

Keep the lists, cut the spam - and me glad I'm not the mod of this forum, or there would have been at least some warnings after the last two "lists threads" turned into huge spamfests.

BEST solution would be to post the lists in the OTF where they belong with all the other crap.

Whatever your reasons for suddenly questionably changing tack, I agree completely. The lists were entertaining, and a small amount of spam was sort of expected. I am horrified at what the May thread(s!) became.

If a mod thinks the spam is getting out of hand, a warning is usually sufficient. Banning all discussion on ppd's (what locking the thread effectively does) doesn't help anyone.

The lists do offer some insight to who are the active members each month...that's interesting. I enjoy reading the lists. It's almost a "how to guide" for reaching Emperor within 12-18 months

I wonder if folks seeing the mothly list and the 50+/ppd count, by some of the more active members of the site, see that as a goal unto itself.

In the long run, are we not just creating instutionalized, subsidized spammers?

I'm not happy about these accusation pointed towards me of dishonesty, trolling and spamming. If you have an issue come out and say it to my face, but don't hide behind *wink smiles*

Firstly I find it extremely insulting to be called a spammer. Spam posts are posts you ignore, spam e-mail is deleted without being read, spam mail goes straight into the bin. By calling someone a spammer you are saying that their posts are worthless - that they are posting for the sake of getting more posts, or that their posts are lacking in any intrinsic worth.

By calling me a spammer you put me into the same category as those who post 6 times in a row, in the same box as those who check their post count daily, you class me with people who post "one smilie" posts. Maybe these people are happy to be called spammers. Perhaps they have a stronger sense of self worth. Perhaps they lack respect for the people that read their crap *shrugs* I'm not wanting to attack any other posters here.

For those who point at my post count and say "Look! He's such a spammer! How dare he complain!" I say the following.

I didn't get my post count because I wanted to get a large post count. It just happened. This is what happens if you are involved in democracy games for a long while, PBEMs, running forum games, SMAC strategy discussions, BG help etc etc etc. Unlike some people I don't have 90% of my post count from the Apolyton/Community forum.

So. I'll start by asking nicely, but my crusade against spam has begun. It will not be halted. I saw what happened on other forums when spam was allowed to run unchecked too long, and I spoke against it then, but was ignored. The forum almost died. I won't let it happen to the forum I love.

I don't want to tell the mods how to do their job, but the best idea would be to move these lists to the OTF. We can have the same discussion - but I'll bet you my last Euro there is HALF the posts in a lists thread in the OT and from more different people when no one gets a +1 from commenting on other people getting +1s.

There. My piece is said. Thankyou for your time, and don't point the Finger of Spam my way. You know who you are.

I think some people are taking this WAY TOO SERIOUSLY.

I'm with Jamski for at least 2 reasons:

1) The crappy metaspam is an affront to the true manner of the artform
2) I see inequal treatment at allowing these threads to continue and disallowing other threads people find interesting and funny but are deemed pointless spam by Ming.
