So, does my country have a big industrial sector or not?

The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

I would say that the Private sector includes all of the companies not owned and operated by the government. So Im guessing all of the operations in your 4th ranked publishing industry are owned and operated by the government.

I see no reason why that would be the case; rather, my economy was simply strong enough that it could absorb the change without any serious downsides.

if the outlawing was just an issue that was raised , it probalby low on the basis that NS uses to do the calcs..

As you said Russia is classic case, Communism somehow doesnt match the output of Capitlaist ,, But it interesting anyway

Again, what? I have no idea what you're trying to say here.

Actually, my point regarding Russia was the effects of making the transition from one to the other - from semi-feudalism to communism, and more recently, from communism to capitalism. Both of these transitions caused massive economic damage, because they were so drastic and abrupt.

Increase Your PM Length

ok to lay it out in simple terms,

The term "Frightening " econmy" is a NAtionStates term, based on your resposnes to the issues raised each day.

It puts certain values on certain responses. this then goes into its calculation to make its decision on what your econmy is and what your major industrys are.

So if "outlawing Private enterprise" was an issue you enacted then if it doesnt alter your NationsTates econmoy then it musnt hav eput much worth on that decision

Except that in other cases, it does affect the economy significantly, as UR himself pointed out. My point in response is that if you manage the economy well, it doesn't have too much impact.

Not immediately after the changeover, which is what I'm taking about. In NS terms, they outlawed private enterprise, took the hit, and then starting doing stuff to boost the economy.

Has anyone noticed that the top of the scale in Nation States are bad results.

RT)Economic -----------Political Freedoms-----Civil Rights(-- )

(15)Frightening----------Corrupted--------------Widely Abused
(14)All-Consuming------Widely Abused---------Frightening
(13)Powerhouse---------Excessive --------------Excessive
(12)Thriving-------------World Benchmark------World Benchmark
(11)Very Strong---------Superb-----------------Superb
(10)Strong---------------Excellent---------------Excellent
(09)Good----------------Very good-------------Very Good
(08)Fair------------------Good------------------Good
(07)Reasonable----------Average----------------Average
(06)Developing-----------Below Average--------Below Average
(05)Struggling------------Some-------------------Some
(04)Weak----------------Few--------------------Few
(03)Fragile---------------Rare--------------------Rare
(02)Basket Case---------Unheard Of-------------Unheard Of
(01)Imploded------------Outlawed---------------Outlawed

Level 12 seems to be the cut off for a healthy sector, perhaps 13 in economy. But All-consuming and frightening are not good economies to have.

Yes, I've seen that argument before; that comparison would suggest that when you get to All-Consuming or Frightening, your economy is getting too large in some way. While you can argue about whether this means that it's better to aim for a lower economy ranking, I don't see what that has to do with this discussion.

My point was perhaps it doesnt have as much impact because a 'frightening' economy is already broken. Therefore, outlawing private enterprise would only make it a little more broken.

I think the 3+ billion population makes up for the imploded economy. You probably cant beat a 2.5bil country with a powerful economy, but you probably easily beat my 29 million population powerhouse economy.
