The French are worse, though, just ask Belgians.

The Germans are worse than the French, just ask any Frisians or Dutch.

The Poles are worse than the Germans, just ask the Russians.

The Swedes are worse than the Poles, just ask the Evil Finns.

But the most arrogant, the most painfully up their own intestinal tracts without a proctologist in sight, or a friendly s.t.d. clinic nurse with forceps on hand, are the Swiss.

Just ask the Luxemburgers.

'1885 - Gottlieb Daimler invented what is often recognized as the prototype of the modern gas engine - with a vertical cylinder, and with gasoline injected through a carburetor (patented in 1887). Daimler first built a two-wheeled vehicle the "Reitwagen" (Riding Carriage) with this engine and a year later built the world's first four-wheeled motor vehicle.
1886 - On January 29, Karl Benz received the first patent (DRP No. 37435) for a gas-fueled car.
1889 - Daimler built an improved four-stroke engine with mushroom-shaped valves and two V-slant cylinders. '

when I watch British programs on PBS, I respected the British even less.

How can they find crap like that funny?

Aside from a few Monty Python sketches, the British have no sense of humour at all, and can't do comedy.

Yeah, that 'Fawlty Towers' is so humourless.

'Waiting for God'? Nope. 'The Young Ones'? Nah, mate.

'Till Death Us Do Part' ? Not a chance, me old china.

Astonishing, then, that they should choose to remake 'Till Death Us Do Part' as 'All in the Family' in the United States, and there have been two unsuccessful retreads of 'Fawlty Towers' for American television.

And why do Americans like Benny Hill?

'The Americans made their own version of the show called All In The Family with the Alf Garnett character being renamed to Archie Bunker. The Germans also made a version and The Garnetts' became The Tetzlaff's!).'

http://www.nostalgiacentral.com/tv/comedy/tilldeath.htm

'A changed format arrangement means that the 'theme' of the show is purchased. CBS will be free to write their own scripts and characters. The same has been done with other hit shows like Absolutely Fabulous, One Foot in the Grave and Cracker.'

Benny Hill rocked!

well mabye it did when I was a kid. When you are 8 years old, that was quality entertainment.

I don't think it would be as intellectually stimulating today.

'In 1979, the Thames material was re-edited into a package of half-hour shows for the American TV agent Don Taffner and these became hugely successful, causing Hill to become arguably the biggest star on US television at that time, and confounding those who had believed that, as in the case of Monty Python the essential Britishness of the humour could not appeal beyond these shores. That it did, and that Americans embraced Hill in such an all-encompassing fashion, owes much to his skill as a mime artist - many of his best sketches were without dialogue - and also to the shock factor generated by the more risqué material at a time when, generally, US TV was much more tame. '

So your saying in the last 50 years the British have only made a total of 5-6 televison programs?

Or are we all agreeing that only 5-6 were worth the film and worthy of watching? Cause I think we can agree on that last part. (Replace Young Ones which is NOT funny or entertaining with Dr Who though)

Americans have come up with a lot more than 5-6 shows and a lot more than 5-6 American programs are mass broadcast in foreign markets.

Uppity British..............

But just look at our contribution to cuisine. You can't tell me fish covered in batter and chips smothered in vinegar is not funny. And spotted dick or plum duff is downright hilarious.

And then there is semolina pudding.

All these British shows mentioned and no 'Blackadder' as of yet.

Anyway, the Brits are right arrogant tossers and thus should be subject to French haughtiness for the rest of their country's life.
