Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

Yeah, me too:

Spain v Portugal 3-1
Russia v Greece 0-2
Croatia v England 1-1
Switzerland v France 0-1
Italy v Bulgaria 1-0
Denmark v Sweden 2-1
Holland v Latvia 2-1
Germany v Czech Republic 2-0

I'm going for the same line as Monk in group D(eath?). Holland will make a valiant effort against Lativa (that will do the same) but only get 2-1 as Advocaat will do everything he can to destroy the dutch offensive. But it will not make any difference. Czech republic needs to rest some key players and the evil empire of european football will get their place in the quarter finals.

WTF did Heitinga do to get him send off the field

Who was the fool that tried to assault, lost the ball and subsequently was responsible for the 3rd Czech goal? What an idiot

A 2-2 draw would have (most likely) gotten us to the third round, and the draw would have been a fair result in any case, since both teams played well, and attractive football as well.

The only hope there is left for the Dutch team now is that both Czechia and Holland play as well next round.

He fell victim to a schwalbe.

Advocaat should be fired and Gonzalez executed Without those two people we would've won with a 3,4 goal difference and we would've been through to the next round. Now we can pretty much pack our bags

That referee really sucked.
Tonight 3 clear penalties weren't given at least, to Latvai and Holland. Why not?
And that red card should really be discarted.

I think Advocaat did not a very good substitute thing, but the failure is on the defence of Holland. If one Czech is free in the 16 meters, why do the dutch defenders not seem to know they have to go to him.....!?

But that referee really really tried as hard as he could to kill the game. It was still a very good game though.

Beste game I'v seen so far. It should've been 2-2.
Those germans don't deserve to go to the next round.
They simply don't deserve it.

Advocaat screw it up with that substitution and I agree, that referee was the worse I've seen at least two penalties should have been give to Holland.. and of course Van Nistelrroij goal was offside

I think from the ref's POV it was a fault though, I know I was fooled the first time, but yeah, it was a schwalbe..
2-2 would have been a fair result aswell, but some great goals this match
The second one from the Dutch was a beauty and according to new rules no off-side (though it is IMO ).
A pity the long distance shot from Nedved didn't go in......some shot that was!!!
Again, two more brilliant goals.
Good game

So theoretically, passive offsides don't count now, but I'm in doubt to whether that's right. Being in a passive offside with a 5 meter margin and then scoring because of that...

Yeah me too, I don't they should call for an off-side as long as that being is no longer involved in the attack. IE doesn't touch the ball anymore and certainly doesn't score.

I think the current offside law sucks, for a number of reasons.

I am of the school of thought that says "If you're not interfering with play, what are you doing on the pitch?"

@Alva

Exactly a pasive offside is when the guy don't get involved in the play. In this case Van Nistelrroij had several meters of advantage over the Czech defenses and that way the goal was easy to do. The referee should have stop the play at the moment Van Nistelrroij touched the ball.

Anyway a offside goal against two penalties not given isn't too much of advantage to Holland. What a crappy referee

He was crappy with the penalty for sure, he was correct on the 'off-side' goal and I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt on the red card.
I'm not sure where he was, probably right behind the two players and from that position it more than likely llooked like a foul.

I agree. Towards the end of the season in England, Bolton started using a free kick tactic of having several key attacking players standing way "offside" before the kick was taken.

As the taker started his run up, they would start to run back to an onside position. They were technically onside, but the keepers got so distracted that Bolton scored some "soft" goals from the free kicks because the goalie was not paying attention to the shot.

Don't give a card because something 'looks like a fool' from a position that doe'sn't give a good oversight.
Ask your help-referees.
I wonder if he remembered he already gave one yellow card, since it took some time before he realised he had to show the red card as well........

Also, on van Nistelrooy's goal, the replay clearly showed that when he saw Hollland regain position and start to attack, he stopped trotting back towards onside and took one or two more steps backwards, and then turned and joined the play going forward. Very cynical.

ok, I'll rephrase..he was convinced it was a foul..
Though you could be right on the the second part, if he was convinced it was a foul then it was a yellow-card offense too.

Denmark-Sweden: 2-2

side note:

If van Nistelrooij's goal wasn't off-side according to new rules then these rules should be dropped immediately, or the off-side rule should be dropped completely
