Different strokes for different folks. The Toronto protest last year was huge and the NDP milked it for all it was worth.

It's the end of any hope that Canada will adopt Bush style politics. Yay!!!

I think I'll write to the Toronto Sun and ask them to stop pretending that they represent the views of the majority of ordinary Canadians – it's been four elections now.

The media is declaring victories way too early.

They're saying Layton has won, but he's only 500 votes ahead and only 105 of 195 polling stations have reported.

Olivia Chow is being declared a loser, but that's based on reports from 70 out of 234 polling stations.

Well, this is certainly interesting...

There was certainly the potential, during this election, for Canada to wind up taking a sharp turn to the right. Instead, it seems like we'll be easing left instead.

Martin in the driver's seat with Yappy Jack talking in his ear... Eh, things could be worse.

Enter the AD-FREE zone

Also, interesting to see on the CBC side-scroller: watch for the actual numbers in the rural Alberta ridings... They're not even close. Usually the Conservative candidate has won with about 10,000 votes to the Lib & NDP's thousand each. Just ridiculously one-sided. I knew the Conservative grip on seats in rural Alberta was strong, but these numbers are RIDONKULOUS.

In the Edmonton ridings, things are noticeably... tighter.

Another interesting phenomenon: in most Calgary ridings, the third-place party (behind victorious Cons and second-place Grits) is not the NDP, but the Greens.

He's dead, Ben. He's had every conceivable advantage in this campaign:

1) The voters are tired of the Liberals as it's been ten years - that's natural.

2) The Liberals have been mired in scandal.

3) They ran a terrible campaign.

But the Liberals will still be the government because they are most in line with voters in Ontario. Most right wing Canadians are like Asher: they are economically conservative, but aren't bigots. There is no way they will vote for a socially conservative party. Kudos to Canada for that.

If the Tories can't win with this advantage, they will never win. Unless, of course, they completely drop the religious right and abandon US style politics. That means revitalising the PC party which Canadians trusted on social issues – "Progressive Conservative" sounded like an oxymoron, but it is the only viable form of conservatism in Canada.

Actually, what happened is that:

A: Polls are worth about jack now. I was listening to Angus Reid on the radio a couple weeks ago. He pointed out that the pollsters are hitting an 80%+ refusal rate, and that therefore the accuracy of them is reduced to near zero (my words on the last phrase, not his; he was more restrained). I answer brief polls, but refuse to answer personal questions (how much money earned in the household). i got polled at least 5 times, so I am on someone's list.

B: Slander is still good for a stampede in Ontario, but not such a big one.

Harper did fine. He stayed the course, stayed cool, and kept to the high road for the most part. The decision to stay on to take advantage of another year or three of Liberal misrule should be his. Now he gets the added advantage of the NDP being tainted by it. I hope they enjoy the legacy, heh.

Of course, he is likely to head back to the private sector anyways, since he really dislikes politics apparently. He is not the usual duck, and he is not great at it. However, he will win if he sticks around, and he is moderate enough to stick around.

In the end, the only alternative to the Liberals to form a government will regroup, and actually get a chance to define itself with a policy convention, rather than being defined by opponents. I'd like to see your smiling face and 'natural governing party' schtick when the tide turns, which it most assuredly will.

Now, onto happier topics.

I'm glad that the Bloc did not do what it looked like they might do. 55 seats is very good for them, but not the disaster that I was led to believe might happen. Kudos to KH.

I'm also sort of glad that Martin gets to run the circus of a minority, and not Harper. No matter how I may dislike how the campaign was won in the last two weeks, the Conservatives are just not ready. I'd rather we have to endure one or two Liberal minorities before the Conservatives are dropped into the cauldron of governing. We really don't need another 10 years of a clown being able to win majorities as leader of the Liberals (I'm not saying Chretien was a clown, but a clown could have done nearly as well).

Finally, it looks like about 158 or 159 seats for the Liberals and NDP. Don't gloat too much, lefties. Your leash is shorter than the length of Red Tories who bolted to the Liberals. That most likely means that there will not be much of any radical governing going on. That is a good thing in this charged climate.

Now I'm actually going to have to buy a party membership, for the first time ever. Someone's gotta ***** slap the Conservatives into shape. If Clark is too much of a wuss to stick around and do it, others will have to get involved.

All that ****ing matters ist fwe ****ing win

I said the conservatives would bget 100 seats and they did
I said the liberals would get 140 steats an tthey did
I said the NDP would get 25 and they did
Was a bit off on the BQQ. THought no more than 50 at the worst. 55 means that the Liberals have compleyrey nlost the soft federalists. Not necessaryilty beacasue they're sovernengists noe but because they ****ed up and peple are oissed at them.

Btu my overall predictions stand as the most accurate of this election.
