No if you were that big you couldn't lay it up too. There is a lot more to it than that. There are people as big as Shaq but they can't do what he does. And most of Shaq's points are scored on layups or dunks. Did you read the article? He has all kinds of moves. And shooting well does not just mean shooting from the outside. A turnaround or hook can be just as hard if not harder than shooting a wide open shot from 20 feet out, but Shaq does these things very well.

Stop saying Shaq can't play D. He has been an all-NBA defensive player 3 times and probably deserves more. Its also inaccurate to say he can hardly dribble. I have seen him lead fast breaks down the court and go coast to coast. And the moves he displays when he fakes and drives to the (which he did 3 times in a half in game 1 when Wallace tried to steal the ball) also show he can dribble.

If you don't like Shaq that's fine. He says a lot of stupid stuff, is extremely arrogant, and plays for a team that people hate. But to say he has no skill and all he does is dunks is ridiculous.

Which was my point... Wilt averaged close to 30pts and 30rebs against Russell's Celtics. He won the individual matchup (Russell did pretty well himself, especially rebounding though) and the Celtics won the team matchup.

uh no. and when was the last time he did a hook shot?

when? 7 years ago? and no its not inaccurate to say he cant dribble. everyone leads a fast break once. hell even yao did it. and by fakes do you mean pump fakes? cuz his only other move is to bulldoze over the other guy and dunk over him.

look at tim duncan, and kevin garnett. both just as tall as shaq, but all are 10 times better than shaq is at defense, dribbling, and shooting.

He hit a ~10f one in game one. It was one of those half-jump half-sky hooks from straight away. Most of his shots in game one were 4-8f.

He can hit the 6-10f turn around pretty well, uses the bank ok from the angles. Outside 10f he doesn't shoot, and shouldn't be shooting because he can always get closer with his size (except on free throws).

I cannot cheer for the Lakers.

They don't deserve the title.

Especially when an adulterer/alleged rapist hits the game winning shot.

You guys talk about great centers, and I have not yet hear the name Kareem.

He was a better shooter, has better footwork, and he could pass, better than Shaq.

Plus, his skyhook was unstoppable.

Also, little hint, he is the all-time leading scorer.

Not just that, but he's been one of the DIRTIEST players to ever lace up a pair of jimmy's. I like Payton, but Malone is one nasty SOB.

Great series so far. Lakers got b*tch-slapped by 20 pts. last night, and it's quite possible the Pistons could take all three at home. I don't think the Lakers have seen this kind of defense all season, and they look befuddled.

edit: And Olajuwon was the best all-around big man. Any seven-foot big man that can go from playing Soccer to the NBA has got serious motor skills.

He didn't average that for his career though. 30.2 pts/game was his career average, 28.7 against Russell's Celtics. Sure Russell was a great center, but he definitely didn't "own" Wilt. The Celtics owned the team game, the individual matchup was pretty even.

What was with Rasheed's hands last night though? He lost the ball at least once every time he touched it except that first lob. Didn't even look like he (or the ball) was getting hit.

The Lakers do look pretty dead in the water, but they are a schitzo team. They could still win the series. Having lived in Utah for a good portion of my life, all I can say is that Malone on the Lakers is the penultimate team to root against. (maybe if Malone were on the Yankees there'd be some competition...)

The Lakers are in deep, deep trouble. The Pistons are 6-0 in their last six chances to wrap up a series. If Detroit gets win #3, bank on it: they will get #4.

He was a goalie though, so probably a lot more hand-eye than foot-eye coordination. But i agree, the Houston-Orlando finals where Shaq got taken to school by Hakeem was funny as hell.

Bryant seems intent on handing it to them. Yah, the Pistons are playing great D on him, but there's no excuse for shooting 8 for 25 on a night Shaq shoots 16 for 21.

Part of the problem was Sheed helping out with a soft double before Shaq got the ball, but all the Lakers have to do to beat that is run a cut to the hoop with his man, or reverse the ball and have Shaq cross the lane. That will at least make the Pistons rethink their defense a bit.

I hate the Lakers, but hate having to watch such idiocy on the court more. Even if it's what's keeping them out of the series.

Pah...I doubt it. The NBA Star Chamber will weigh in, the refs will start blowing the whistle, and the Lakers will crawl back in and be the first team to come back from a 3-1 deficit. It's all fixed. You can't have a big-market team, with big-market names, go down in five games. You heard it here first.

True. The NBA Star Chamber may also feel that Kobe's legal troubles shed too much negative publicity on the league, and might allow the Pistons to take it this year, adding a strategic feel-good, underdog element that will reflect positively for the league.

Not without seven games, of course. Gotta keep the revenue flowing, after all.
