Will that mean goodbye to Alec Guinness as well? Let's just redo all of the original trilogy. And we'll need Hayden to play Darth Vader when Luke takes his mask off.

Actually, IIRC, Lucas is changing Vader's face when Luke takes his mask off to an older Hayden.

Have to agree with Imran.

I don't think any changes Lucas makes at this point will ruin my enjoyment of the original movies any more than the Ewoks already had.

If these changes take place, it will only be evidence that Lucas has lost all control of his mental faculties. Thus, I will be forced to replace him at Skywalker Ranch and assume control of LucasFilms. And LucasArts. And all other related companies.

And woe, woe, woe, to Jar Jar Binks, when that day comes.

Star Trek and Star Wars do not compete against each other.

At least, one with a grasp of the two films realizes that no such competition exists.

How can lucas remove the viasage of an actor like that? I mean, the guy who played Vader at the end, will he be struck from the credits?

David Prowse played Vader. He cant be stricken from the credits, but they would have to include Hayden in the credits.

I dont know that they need to age Hayden in that shot, but the trickey bit is that Vader (Prowse) is 6'7" tall. Did Anakin Skywalker have a growth spurt in his 20's?

All of this reminds me of the South Park episode dealing with this subject.

Well, that can be explained by the fact that Vader was more machine than man by ANH (robot stilts ).

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I don't know how up to date on nerdy Star Wars stuff you guys are, but Lucas has said on multiple occasions that the original (pre-Special Editions) will never be made available on DVD, ever, which is why these sorts of changes are such an outrage.

Lucas, what a ****er. This guy is changing movies that he didn't even direct, making these changes after the original director and the dude who played unmasked vader are both conveinantly deceased. I could say so many things about how he has ruined the Star Wars saga.

But anyway, if anyone is interested in top-notch DVD-quality versions of the originals ripped from the laser-discs, just PM me. I know someone who makes what are considered the best bootlegs available on the internet.

Does it really matter to Lucas what people think about things like this (i.e., art) as long as he is able to keep on raking in his customary $200,000,000-400,000,000/year personal income?

Get. A. Grip.

Minor changes really don't do anything to the story whatsoever.

Um... he was executive producer, which means even if they were alive, tough **** for them.

Read my first response in this post.

I'll definetly buy the DVD new versions of them. I'll love to see the new lightsaber effects of the later movies being imported to the old films. That'll make the end fight in ROTJ really look sharp .

He does have the right to make the changes, but it's still sad just the same. The movies ARE classics, sci-fi and otherwise, and it seems rather pointless to make changes to something that was pretty darn good to begin with (especially ESB).

I think a big part of their appeal now is that they're NOT so glossed-over and digitized like the Ep. I-III, which look like glorified muppet movies.

Interesting perspective you have on contract law, especially for a lawyer in training. While I don't know the specifics of this case (and you're probably right - Lucas was a money-grubbing power freak since his THX-1138 days) in many cases the producers don't have the sort of arbitrary power that you seem to think they have. Even the Weinsteins had to pressure people to get them to change their contracts... they couldn't do so just because they were the money men.

I'm not going to get too involved in this debate, and I don't know how famillar you are with some of the changes that have been made in the Special Editions, like "Greedo shooting first", the new musical number in RotJ, and so on. But suffice to say, there are very good reasons why people would want to preserve the original movies.

quote:

Um... he was executive producer, which means even if they were alive, tough **** for them.

Oh, of course he legally has the right to, I don't disagree there. But that doesn't mean that he should

I will too. I am all about "enhancing" the movies, most of Lucas' technical enhancements of the movies really rocked. But when it comes to to adding and deleting, or radically changing certain scenes, without allowing access to the originals that put him on the map in the first place, it is there that I take issue.

A correct perspective. The executive producer will have power over final edits and/or additions. The director doesn't have the right to have all of his scenes in the movie. A cast member doesn't have the right to have his scenes in the movie!

quote:
like "Greedo shooting first", the new musical number in RotJ,

Greedo shooting first is gone for the DVD releases, and many thought the new musical number at the end of RotJ was better. Besides, if that is the best you can come up with, I laugh heartily at you! Such minor things ruin the whole thing!
