Anybody watching "Jeopardy" lately? Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

There's a contestant that's currently on who has won 11 days in a row and has amassed over $371,000.00. Apparently he's so good that

1. He has never been challenged on the final Jeopardy question, always having more than twice the amount of cash that the second-ranked player has.

2. One of his opponents put down as her final Jeopardy question "What is same as Ken's answer?"

Sorry for the NY Post cite, but it's the most current article I could find: http://www.nypost.com/entertainment/23172.htm

He's from Utah, so one of Tassy's neighbors are doing good.

quote:
June 17, 2004 -- Ken Jennings' record- setting "Jeopardy!" streak reached 11 consecutive appearances last night, as the soft-spoken software developer continued to rack up the dough — with no end in sight.
Jennings' "Jeopardy!" booty now stands at $376,000 after last night's show, when he fended off an attorney, Josh, and a writer, Patricia.

Jennings will try to continue the streak tonight (7 p.m./Ch. 7), as he makes his twelfth consecutive appearance on the show.

Jennings has averaged over $34,000 in winnings in each of his appearances.

Jennings, the married father of an 18-month-old son (Dylan), works in Salt Lake City developing software for a healthcare-placement firm.

The previous "Jeopardy!" record for consecutive appearances, seven, was set last January.

Isn't this part of the big annoucement or whatever the producer of the show was talking about? Though a month off or so?

Btw, when they did get rid of the 5 time champion and that's it thing?

I was thinking the same thing, but I can't disagree with the change as it will help to create Jeopardy records and 'legends' such as this fellow.

I think the person who put "same as Ken's" should have gotten money..just for wit.

Maybe the Jeopardy folks have a big more money to spend now?

Merv Griffin announced that something amazing was going to happen on... May 20th, or so. Given that this guy is in his third week of play, a quick look at the calendar tells me that he was off by just a few days... understandable given the vaguaries of syndication scheduling.

I think they realized that it doesn't really cost them any more to have 2 five-day winners or 1 ten-day winner... and that the 10 day winner(s) will likely draw in new viewers.

Hell, he's already set all the Jeopardy records and might have set the record for biggest winnings on a game show.

I think there was actually 2 times where he was challenged for final Jeopardy, but it still wasn't close.

I don't like this, because it's better when the games are close, plus there have been a couple of challengers who were pretty good and deserved to win a game.

There was a Canadian champion who dominated the Tournament of Champions and then retired.

I believe his name was Leczek or something to that effect.

It was reasonably close tonight. The top 2 guys (ken was one of them) had over $20,000. But Ken still won out.

I caught it maybe wednesday, just amazing how easily he defeated his opponents. This lady with 80's big hair looked and sounded bored when she could muscle in. He actually missed the final jeopardy question (q was who were Jefferson and Adams, he said Lewis and Clark) but still won handily.

Quiz Bowl.

Now that brings back some good memories.

I remember the Quiz Bowl team I assembled was full of vagabonds, trouble-makers, and comical ruffians. I think the only question one of my team mates answered was something about Boyz II Men.

Despite this, we went up against all of the teams full of the rich, over-acheiver kids and still almost won. We made it to the finals before our streak of upsets finally came to a halt.

In the final match, we broke through and took the lead on two seperate occasions, instilling a fear in those rich, snotty kids that I believe will haunt them to their dying day.

Actually, they lost a court case and were required to dump the 5-time champion limit and double the monetary value of all answers, IIRC.

He got #18 today. They made him work a little; he didn't have it wrapped up going into Final.

The guy is just scary good. I don't know how they'll ever get rid of him without cheating or just putting in a new wins limit.

Have you seen Letterman's "clips" of mismatched answers and questions?
