It's common knowledge now. My wife knew it, and she gets all her news from TV.
It'll be interesting to see what this does to Jeopardy's ratings. The shows where he's going to win, there might not be six viewers other than Ken's family and church. The one where he loses. . . it'll be like the last episode of MASH or Cheers. People all over the country will plan parties around it. Unless Jeopardy gets smart and lets word "slip out" that they plan to skip over some of his wins, and air the loss at an unknown date.

CBC News: The answer is: Jeopardy! champion Ken Jennings
quote: NEW YORK - Jeopardy! champion Ken Jennings is now the winningest TV games show contestant of all time.
Jennings won more than $45,000 US on the episode of the quiz show that aired Wednesday, bringing his total take to $2,197,000.
The previous record was $2,180,000 US won in 2001 by Michigan engineer Kevin Olmstead on A-B-C's Who Wants to be a Millionaire.
Jennings started his winning Jeopardy! streak on an episode that aired in June. So far, the 30-year-old software engineer from Salt Lake City has made 66 appearances on the show.
Jennings broke the record for longest winning streak on any television game show Sept. 15.
spoiler(highlight to read):
That same month, TV Week magazine reported that Jennings lost after his 75th straight appearance, which has already been taped in advance.
That has not been confirmed.

I calculate it as Tuesday, November 16th.
You've got to wonder if the show finally decided to stack the odds by filling the board with categories he is weak on. I recall one show with a "Beer" category that he sucked at.

I can't remember whether the Beer category was more about Brands, or the making of beer, but whatever it was - he got maybe one out of five.
He is amazing though - I am constantly astounded at his range of knowledge.

Wikipedia has an excellent Ken Jennings entry.

spoiler(highlight to read):
In a rumor disclosed Wednesday, September 8, 2004, two sources who were allegedly at the taping said that Jennings had lost on his 75th episode, taped the day before, with total winnings around US$2.5 million.
The incident was reported by TV Week and the Associated Press, appearing in hundreds of newspapers across the United States.
The alleged failing episode will not be shown until at least late November 2004. Since Game 70 was shown on November 9, and the College Championships run through Tuesday, November 23, the 75th airing will most likely occur on Tuesday, November 30. If the show is pre-empted again for Thanksgiving programming, then the alleged episode will not occur until Wednesday, December 1.
To make it more difficult for viewers to keep track of Ken's progress towards his final episode, in early September 2004 the show's announcer, Johnny Gilbert, ceased mentioning the number of games that Jennings has won, as had been the show's custom.
Regardless, Jennings would tie Ian Lygo's record of 75 appearances on a game show if he lasts (Lygo won his 75th game and was retired by the show's producers).
