Term 23: The Silicoids are gone, and Orion is ours.

Turn 255: The decision has been made, we will take Orion, this term. Several planets had their build orders reviewed, cloning centers and research labs were inserted where appropriate. Taxes were raised to 50%.
Turn 256: Assault on Dannu: 3 Power suit units were destroyed attacking the planet, however it is ours now. Our troops also managed to capture sub-space communications, so our CP deficit is now only 3. Only 1 silicoid world remains.
A battleship at Ixion was ordered to put down the Pirates in the Qui System. The battleship at Cryslon has been routed to Kenyan in preparation for the conquest of the Orion System. Finally a starbase was rushed at Kenyan.
Turn 257: A Battleship at Kenyan was ordered to be refitted.
Turn 258: The refit finished. A colony ship to colonize Orion was purchased at Kenyan. Darlenia 2 finished a weather controller, allowing several workers to become researchers.
Turn 259: The silicoid empire has fallen, its last world offered no resistance.
Turn 260: All preparations are in place, we launch for Orion now. In two turns, the fight begins.
The Hali system was reached by our scout, nothing of interest was found here.
Turn 261: The pirates in the Qui system have been eliminated.
Turn 262: The fight begins! The Gaurdian opened up with some kind of radiation weapon that not only pierced the armor on one of our battleships, it killed off the crew, robotic controls are the only thing guiding the starship now Also some sort of energy missile was launched, from what our sensors say, atleast one of our ships will not survive this fight. We also get our first look at the Gaurdian, what a monster. It is quite heavily armed and armored.
Our first volley completely clears the shields, and does 188 damage to the armor, hmm. Our second battleship got as close as it could without getting annihilated by the plasma torpedo, and managed to do 552 damage to the ship, nearly clearing its armor. Our final ship closed to extremely short range, and 4 of the plasma cannons managed to do 556 damage, destroying the Guardian.
"Hurrah we aren't dead!" was heard when the energy torpedo winked out of existance when the Orion guardian fell.
Loknar has taught us of death rays, spatial compressors, quantum detonators, and black hole generators(in otherwords the crap lineup ) However, Orion proved much Richer, we now possess Star Fortresses, and Achiles Targeting Units.
Loknar has also revealed a quite detailed map of the entire sector, and with that knowledge we know of two very rich systems(artifacts, very good worlds) that are within reach. Kenyan is building outposts to claim them, and battleships will launch for the first of the two systems next turn.
State of the Empire: We have 7 battleships, 1 at Orion, 1 headed for Lesath, 1 at Qui, 1 at Joshua,1 headed for Ixion, and 2 headed for Kenyan.1 of the two headed for Kenyan will clear the monsters at both worlds after being refitted to the latest warship design.
We are Using 31 of 32 Command points.
Our latest design is(none of these are built):
Ion Drive Class 3 shields
Zortium armor Positronic Computer
2 Heavy Plasma Cannons
2 Point Defense Phasors
1 Point Defense Phasor
Battlepods
Heavy Armor
Battlescanner
Reinforced Hull
Achiles Targeting System
Of course this is just a stand in, I await a better design from either the citizenry or a minister.
Research wise we are at 448 research a turn,2 turns away from Psionics(57%). What should we go for next?
Our holdings are becoming quite large, and warp interdictors would greatly aide us in defending them. New construction tech will allow us to build even bigger ships in shorter amounts of time. We could also beeline for structural analysers or HEFs. Or we could go for Physics to get miniaturizations of our weapons.
Enemy Fleet strength: The Elerians and Humans have as big a fleet as we do, but the Sarka have the largest fleet.
Psilons: they have 12 enemy spies on us, we'll have to build more spies. They are erratic industrialists, they are neutral towards us.
They have zortium armor, class 1 shields, positronic computers, structural analysers, battle pods, stabilizers, and heavy armor on the equipment/defense side of things. They have plasma cannons and phasors as weapons, and probably possess miniaturizations of them as well. Finally they have all 3 ground to space defensive instalations and only starbases. However they only have nuclear drives.
Their fleet is small, but if they knew how, they could build some good ships.
Bulrathi: They are in a state of unease with us, and are aggressive expansionists. They only have nuclear drives, titanium, and electronic computers. However they do have plasma cannons and structural analysers.
Again their fleet will be slow and small compared to ours. Plus we have a nebulae defending one planet, and our homeworld system has all defensive structures in place.
Sarka: They are relaxed with regards to us, they are aggressive ecologists. They possess class 3 shields, neutronium armor, ion drives positronic computers, stabilizers, structural analysers Battlepods and stealth fields. The best weapon that they have however is the fusion beam. They have ground batteries, missile bases, and star bases as far as defenses go.
Their fleet is large, better armored, and as shielded, luckily ATUs should turn the tides for us when we do decide to attack.
Humans: In a state of Unease with us, they have many systems, but low populations and nearly always 1 planet to a system. These guys live up to their traits, erratic expansionists. They have zortium/ion drives/positronic computers/phasors/plasma cannons/battlepods/structural analysers, etc.
Their fleet is as large as ours according to the graph, and they have some nice stuff as well, but as long as we have a defensive fleet to meet them we should be fine.
Elerians: They are ruthless militarists(I expected pacifistic technologists from their race picks )Their fleet is as large as ours, but they have titanium/EC/ion drives/plasma cannons/phasors. They also have shield capacitors, but no shields.
They have very few planets, and no real worth while traits for us.
Also we have 3 basic zones of development, see the galaxy map. Our core systems, our developed conquered systems, and our freshly settled/conquered systems. I'd say that these 3 zones should each have a governor(perhaps 3 turn players though more can be arranged if people are interested). What does everyone think about having multiple turn players, we are at the point where we can safely do this, and it may speed up the game a bit to let people play their part as soon as they can.
As always, rename save8.gam.sav save8.gam and place it in your Orion2 directory.

Just looked at the first 7 planets in the colony screen and 6 of them, I would change.
Cryslon I making a Battlestation and does not have a Star base.
The SB would be done sooner and help with the extra CP and make the the BS cheaper and faster when you built it.
Dannu is making an Armored Barrack and will take 4 turns. Why not do a Marine Barracks first. It will be done in one turn and could make the difference bewteen a revolt or not.
It will give the morale boost as well.
Darlena Prime on housing and already has 15 pop? Trade could be better, but why not make a Star Fort? It can be done without workers and speed up if needed later.
Darlena I on trade, again why not a Star Fort?
Ixion I doing an Armor Barracks at 141 turn rate. I would buy the marine barracks to ensure the marines on the planet do not get tired and again get the morale boost. You could go to housing them. Well actually I would never have captured this planet.
Ixion III making a cloner and it is already 11 out of 11. No RL is even in the queue.
I stopped at this point. |
Ok whoever ends up being the governor of that area should switch cryslon.
Dannu can't revolt, and I generally do Armor barracks first because there are marines on the ground already, and an armor barracks adds tanks to that immediately, where as a marine barracks will not add anything right away(it has 5 troops already), but you are right marines first for morale.
hmm thought D1 was on housing... Again whoever the governor/turnplayer is should look at that.
I have several planets that I plan to build cloners, then terraform, but its marginally better to terraform then cloner?
The fleet is dispersed, and we can defend them.

One of the things that a marine barracks does is to provide fresh marines. If you land 5 marines and do not have a barracks, those marines suffer fatigue.
The fatigue does not occur with a marine barracks. The number of marines may stay the same, until the pop grows, but they are always fresh.
It maybe that it is not required in this case, but my point is that it is a bad habit, that can bite you.
I don't know about the claim of defending. It may be valid. I only know that you can get into a lot of trouble with such a small fleet, no warp interdicors and a bunch of AI's.
You may well never suffer an attack, but as a repulsive race, they can declare war on you at any time. If they send 5 or 6 ships to a planet with no planetary defense, it could be a problem.
It is just a gamble I see no need to take, but may in fact not be an issue in this game. This is why I do not take on several new clonies at once, unless they are far out of the reach of anyone and I have lots of cash to rush anything I may need.
As I said I dislike queing up a bunch of builds for fairly new planets as I want to be able to reevaluate at each point.
I don't care anything about tanks or battletoids for defense as I am not going to alow anyone to send ground troops to my planets. I care about assemilation.
Once I get Marine, AMC, Armor Barracks down, I am safe from revolts on any planets, unless I am a Uni. These I will put up with a one turn build rate. If the planet cannot do it, I will buy them.
I won't take down any planets, unless I can do that. At this point you already have all the planets you really need to win the game with. The additional ones are just more work. So if it is an ultra rich nearly fully built up, then I may add it, otherwise I don't want the work.
They are not even going to boost your research as they will spend most of the rest of the game making structures.
