I agree with your analysis of the next election time. What's scary is that another tenant in my building was mulled into voting Conservative, and he's on welfare, mentally ill, physically handicapped, illiterate, and gay. I am seriously worried about that kind of persuasion by the Tories out here. As long as Harper isn't a solid PM, I'll be more or less satisfied. Even a minority gov't by Duceppe (and yes, it's statistically possible, if unlikely) would be better.
BTW, I kind of thought Medieval African flags would be difficult to find. I'll just do that scenario with the default monochromes, I guess.

Okay, here is what I could find.
1) Beehive flag referenced in the Harry Turtledove series American Front, where Mormons rebelled against America in WW1.
2) Official flag of Deseret Territory when Deseret originally petitioned to enter the Union in 1851, was officially adopted in 1896.
3) The first president of the Republic of Texas designed this flag himself in 1836, and served as the flag of the Texas Republic until 1839.
4) The second flag of the Republic of Texas, this served as their national flag until Texas joined the Union, when it became the state flag which it remains to this day.
5) The Hawaiian flag designed by Captain Hunt of H.B.M.S. (Her British Majesty's Ship) Baselisk to reflect the close relationship between Hawaii and Britain. This flag was aproved by Hawaii's King Kameihameihas III.
6) The flag of Maximillian's short lived Empire, which is basically the same as Mexico's traditional flag as best as I could tell aside from some minor modifications on the national seal.
7) This is the flag of the Imperial Japanese flag since the late nineteenth century.

Here are the last two flags you asked for. As best as I can tell this would be the Ethiopian flag used during the rule of Haille Selassie. The second is one of many Metis flags that are described in the pages of Canadian history. This one in particular was raised Batoche, a small village in present-day northern Saskatchewan at the dawn of the Northwest Rebellion in 1885. It shows a full colour print of the Virgin Mary on a white banner.
On an off topic note... Way to go Liberals and New Democrats!!. Looks like the Grits can work with the NDP and form a pretty stable coalition government.

Well, I was really worried there during the night, especially since one polling company, I think it was Ipsos Reid said just after the returns from Newfoundland came in that they were projecting a Conservative Minority. But we left wingers prevailed once again!!
Anyways, back on topic, here are those Canadian standards you wanted. In addition to the Union Jack on the blue ensign, I threw in the Union Jack on the red ensign just because I always liked the red flag better. And in the interest of mending ties between Ontario and Quebec I threw in the familiar flag of the province of Quebec.

Now you mentioned that since there were no medival african flags to be found you'd go with the default. I can't let you do that as the default civ II flags are nine years old now and just plain ugly.
Here are some modifications of the old flags that I hope will prove usefull. On an off topic note again, all this talk of Canadian history and politics has really peaked my interest in a scenario about Canada in some way. Whether its about the Northwest Rebellion or a hypothetical western seperation war, I think its time the world had a Canadian conflict scenario.

Actually, if your going to use the ripped flags use these ones, the outer edges look better. Also, I should have included these unit shields with the flags but I forgot to.

Sadly I tried to find your Korean and Moghul flag and once again had no luck. If you or anyone else could just find a reference I'd be glad to make one up, but aside from the Flagspot website I really don't know where else to look.

Don't worry, I took no offence. I can usually tell when people mean to offend and that wasn't the case here. Unfortunatly it turns out I don't have the map that Steph made, or at least not the completed version.
I'll try to get him to send me over the finished version. By the way, if you out tommorow let me just say
HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!!

I hail from Steel City Ontario (Hamilton for you non Canadians). No I'm not in the health care profession, although many in my family are. I simply chose Sarsstock cause it was a concert that was on TV at the time when I needed to enter my userID when I joined the forum.
It was also 2 in the morning and i was a little tapped for ideas.

Well, I think we can keep this thread alive for a bit as long as people need obscure flags. Being Canada Day, I thought this flag was only apropriate.

Sarsstock (or Kobra, if you're reading this too; I haven't forgotten your fine work in the past), could you do me a unique flag set, please. It's kind of different, and previously I was using one flag, but that doesn't seem appropriate any more for what I have in mind. I need four flags for civs that each represent two nations; each should ideally have the left half of one flag and the right half of the other, with no distinguished border between the two. The four I need combine Britain-Spain, Britain-U.S., Britain-France, and North Korea-Vietnam. If one of you (or someone) could do this for me, I'd be most grateful.

I'm on the case!! I shall post those and the Hun flag later tonight. Sadly the Hun flag was the only one I could find for you, no Goth's or East or West Roman Empire.
Also, I might post a screenshot of a hypothetical scenario about a war where "Grand Alberta" (Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and BC) attempt to seperate from Confederation and an invasion is launched from Ontario.

Thanks a lot, as always! Those will do perfectly. Now there's just a few more that I previously used one nation's flag for and was dissatisfied. First, do you have Vasco da Gamma's expedition standard (I was using a Portuguese flag, though the civ represented European colonialism in general in Africa and Asia)? Second, is there a flag that best sums up, in your opinion, European colonialism as a whole in the 17th-19th Centuries (I was using the Union Jack for a 'Europeans' player in both a South American and East Asian scenario which mostly focused on the independent states in the region)? If no flag to symbolize this institution, even poetically, exists, I guess I'll just use the Union Jack for all represented Europeans. If you could please look into this, I'd be most grateful.
