Put an end to popups!

Firstly by mass public complaint. Then by whatever means necessary.

A peaceful solution unless the gays don't want one.

Jon Stewart: For more on the gay marriage controversy, we turn to Daily Show senior moral authority, Steven Colbert. Steven, thanks for joining us, we appreciate you being here. Steven, obviously you're something of an expert on relationships. Having by your own count, been involved in over 300 of them by your, I believe, your 21st birthday.

Steven Colbert: And, 10 more on my 21st birthday, John. It was, it was quite a night.

JS: Steven, why has same sex marriage created such a furor?

SC: John, there's a simple fact here: marriage is a contract between a man and a woman. An often violated, easily broken, eminently disposable contract. Between a man and a woman. The minute we let gays and female gays...

JS: That's uh, that's lesbians.

SC: Them. The minute we let them get married, you're breaking down the last societal barrier between our world and their world.

JS: But, I think that's the point. I think the point is that when you break down those barriers, that's a metaphor for something positive.

SC: Look, Jon, he only reason my wife and I got married in the first place was because it was something gays couldn't do. Our wedding was conceived entirely as a giant homosexual taunt. But now, now the vows I made to my wife seem as shallow and empty as the vows I made to my three previous wives.

JS: But I'm not still seeing, and again, I haven't studied it like you have. But how do two people who have nothing to do with you, how does their personal decision impact your commitment.

SC: Well Jon, here's a for instancestance. [sic] My wife and I have been through a bit of a rough patch lately. Over the last few months, I've forgotten our anniversary, her birthday, on several occasions, her name. Now, I ask you Jon, is this because of some magic pattern of emotional neglect just dropped down from the sky to ruin my marriage? Isn't it the simpler answer that hundreds of gays were granted judicial permission to seek equal contributory benefits? Connect the dots, man.

JS: But Steven, ...

SC: Oh, and I banged her personal trainer.

JS: [shocked pause]

SC: I'm telling you, it's getting bad.

JS: Well then, I guess, you know, you feel so strongly, you would probably support the constitutional amendment banning same-sex unions.

SC: Absolutely, Jon. I know a constitutional amendment is a drastic step. But there's a societal trend out there I disagree with, so, what other choice is there? We have to defend the institution of marriage.

JS: Well, to defend the institution then, would you also support a constitutional amendment against adultery? Because that's really...

SC: Whoa. Whoa. Listen, comrade. Get your jack-booted thugs out of my bedroom. Or rather, one of several undisclosed bedrooms. And, one time behind the lat machine. That was awesome. She's really fit.

Heterosexuals do not suffer any negative effects from seeing homosexual couples holding hands in public.

The only heterosexuals that have a problem with it, are those who are ignorant about these issues, and/or they homosexuals.

You need ask?

I seriously doubt, BTW, that seeing gays hold hands will turn kids homosexual. The opposite obviously doesn't work with kids that see heteros holding hands and nonetheless grow up to be gay.

You have a very warped and naive view of the world. Sexuality just isn't defined like that. Tell me, why do people still become homosexual when all they see are heterosexual relationships. The other part of the story being swept under the carpet just makes it very hard for homosexuals to come to terms with who they are, that is the truth of the matter.

And I certainly do not like your use of the words 'normal' and 'corrupt'. There is nothing state your frame of reference is correct. You have no moral authority.

I once held hands with my boyfriend in Swansea - which is a lot less accepted in Wales than in the South East of England.

Almost everyone stared and we had a lot of abuse shouted at us.

We still carried on.

There are a lot of people out there braver than you and your imaginary mob of 'vigilantes' (though of course that's not difficult), who would carry on even if you threatened them with violence.

Gay men and women have been standing up to prejudice for a lot longer than either of us have been around. People aren't going to stop because of people like you.

For that matter, what about the three-year old kid who thinks its normal to threaten and possibly even inflict violence on those with a different opinion than him, and grows up to be another bigoted 'vigilante.' I doubt the parents would be too thrilled about that either.

Yes -- you'd previously said that morality is determined by society, and society certainly does not approve of you threatening or inflicting violence on somebody else just because the two of you have a difference of opinion. "Stop holding hands or I'll beat the tar out of you" qualifies as assault.

Holding hands doesn't make you gay or heterosexual- did you miss out a lot of sex education in special ed.?

Perhaps there's a special pull out from the 'Daily Sport' with small words or stick figure pictures that you can understand which might be able to explain human sexuality to you.

If you're a result of a 'higher' education someone at admissions seriously goofed.

Still, perhaps you could serve as an example to a younger generation of how not to turn out, so in that respect you might serve some useful purpose, other than being a draught excluder or hot air generator.

Man -- what kind of a world do you live in? Because here on Earth, one's sexual orientation is not determined by indoctrination or exposure to other people of different sexual orientation.

It's normal for me to be with another man and to show appropriate affection if we both feel like it, in public places. There is no "corruption" factor.

With my last partner, we got away with it wherever we felt like holding hands. Some people scowled at us, a couple have muttered obscene remarks but we got away with it, because no one has the right to take away the rights of others.

Aaaaawww . . . . . that's too bad.

By the way, you greatly exaggerated to what extent the population finds this repugnant. And secondly, just because there are bigots out there that have a problem with gays holding hands, does not mean that gays should not hold hands in public.

It's not our fault that bigots are not able to deal with THEIR problem -- that's right -- it's their problem, so don't put the burden on us.

From the results of a 2001 Gallup poll:

quote:
The percentage of Americans who believe "homosexuality is an acceptable alternative lifestyle" rose from 38% in 1992 to 52% today, an increase of 14% in less than a decade. The Century Gallup Poll records that the previous decade, from 1982 to 1992, there was only a four-point jump, from 34% who felt that homosexuality was an acceptable alternative lifestyle to 38%. Thus, the acceleration of approval for homosexuality, from 4% a decade to 14% in less than a decade, is almost a fourfold leap.

Even if we assume that all of the remaning 48% who disapprove of homosexuality would be willing to employ assault and battery to voice their disapproval, the "99%" estimate is still way off.
