Prepoll Discussion: Investigation of Rhurpott before the strike Support Apolyton

This is a Discussion thread, conserning a Bill, dealing with the Investigation of Rhurpott on turn 190 (740AD - D-day).

The Proposed Wording of the Bill:

quote:

The Senate of Apolyton, strongly suggests that the Consulate Investigate the GWT city of Rhurpott, in the year of 740AD. This is to occure, after our Strike forces have landed and we are secure knowing that the strike will commence at the appointed time.

The Approximate cost of this investigation, is the sum of 148 Gold, to be taken out of the treasury, before any other expenditures (i.e. shortrushes & Unit Upgrades) are completed.

The reasons & timing for this bill:
- To insure that we have the ability to make an invastigation.
If GWT were to declare war and attack our Landing force )after we landed), then we would not have the ability, the next turn (191 - 750AD - FP Strike), to make in investigation.

- To gain Vital knowledge as to the Economic "health" of GWT, while still at war with CGN.
This will include their slider settings and current treasury amount.

- To gain Intelligence as to the Improvements, WF settings and current builds for the city of Rhurpott.
We know that they have an FP there, but what else do they have? Are they just about finished with a Mil Unit build?? How much, with just that one cities loss, will it effect their economy. What can we sell off, when we take that city??

The discussion is open, the Poll will be posted, sometime tomorrow, after we have played the turn and will run for a Maximum of 3 days (depending on save turnaround and Order availablity).

This bill will NOT require the Consuls to make the investigation, but it will let them know, if it passes, that we (The Senate) would like it to be done.

And this investigation, done likely on the turn of the landing will mean absolutely squat since it matters not how well Rhurpott is defended but by how many Ansar are in the perimiter... something that the investigation will NOT tell us.

I say no

I'm confused as to what we would gain by investigating Ruhrpott, except for the empire-wide figures; and as I'm sure we could get those by using a cheaper investigation, I fail to see benefit to investigating Rhurpott itself. It would tell us what they had in the city in 740, not in 750; and any units outside the city would not be revealed.

What would we gain?

Our treasury as of 720 AD was 28 gold, with +63 gpt.

No! We hardly gain anything, and it would leave us with virtually no gold.

In the bill, About 148 gold (If we were to investigate it this turn, not next turn). As Kloreep stated, we could always do another city just to get the Economic figures. But then, we won;t know what that city is building and what Improvements it might have.

Current treasury?

See the top of the current turnthread for that figure, but it's 116, after we get the 25 gold from CFC this turn. We will also have shortrushes this turn (total of 60 gold).

Because we are researching Music Theory, we are currently 3 turns away from completing it. BUT, 1 of those 3 turns, will be at 10% research. This next turn, will be the 10%, which will give us about +268 Gold for that upcoming turn. So, after we are done with this turn, with 56 in the treasury at the end of the turn, we will have about 324 gold in our treasury, at the start of the next turn, without anything from CFC (the turn that we investigate),

I'd like the knowledge but not at the cost of 148 gold. We would not gain anywhere near 148 gold worth of information. Our missions either succeeds or fails.

I, too, think, spending gold here would not be really wise. I do not think the result of such an investigation could make us change our plans in any way... we need gold for better purposes.

An interesting thing to do... introduce a non-binding Bill this way. I'd have thought that a poll straight away would have been just as effective, but there ain't nothing wrong with this.

This thread is clearly about the wording of the bill itself, and it looks fine to me, especially if it's non-binding (no need to carefully check it with a fine comb in that case).

In the absence of E_T and as I am still a Senator, I will post this poll for him.
