Zkribbler, sounds good. I think we need to plan on meeting, and also figure you might need to get to the house on your own. That wouldn't be the end of the world as everyone in town knows where it is. I'll explain. The trick is flying into Tagbilaran without switching airports in Manila. Every airline except PAL has to switch from international to domestic, two different places. So, Fly PAL into Manila, switch to a domestic flight into Tag, grab a tricycle to the Bus station and grab a bus to Jagna. They'll drop you at the market where you grab a tricycle to the house. Everyone knows Dolores's house by the last name.

If you wait a few days past the 21st we can meet you in Tag.

Anyway, we can discuss this over the phone when you call this weekend.

Because in order to continue getting checks, I have to be present and able to work, should someone offer me a job. Otherwise, I'd be committing fraud, and I tend to obey the law and not abuse the system.

Actually, there's a way around it. I'd have to move to the Phils and look for work there. Since I'm not required to take a job that pays less than 80% of my former gig, I'd be golden.

Hmmmaybe the x-mas/new year period, but I don't think that's very likely. The Easter period is another option but it's probably too close to the exams period. And in either case I can only stay for 2 weeks at most.

Colon, Christmas is a nice time. Carolers come by the house and sing traditional songs for a few coins. Easter is part of 'holy week'. Alot of church stuff going on...a procession where everyone walks behind a statue, etc.

True, people have been killed in the islands near Mindanao. The little MOSLEM islands in the Sulu sea, SOUTH of Mindanao. Che, listen now. SOUTHERN Mindanao and those little islands down south of there are a problem, but not to us. In comparison I live in Oregon and am not the least concerned about the LA gangs.

Don't come this time if you're scared. Instead listen to the discriptions of the Poly posters who do. Maybe you can make it another year.

People got grabbed in Palawan. Bohol is easier to get to from Mindanao than Palawan.

Bohol has very few. Che, you can cross the road in front of your house and get hit by a car...

Over 100,000 Americans live in the Phils full time. I've seen maybe a hundred or two wandering around Bohol. This is my 4th trip and I've never felt threatened.

Even better than slices would be the baby bell cheese or gouda. Both come wax wrapped and arrived in Iraq without any spoilage.

Zkribbler, just tried contacting you at your day phone but no luck. When is the best time to call?

Our plans have changed slightly for the trip. We'll likely be leaving on the 9th now. Dolores expressed the wish to be home for her birthday which is the 15th. This will also allow us to get the house ready for guests. We can still have folks met at Cebu or Tagbilaran. My brother in law, Boney, can meet you in Cebu and help you the rest of the way. For him to meet you in Cebu will cost about $30, as this is aprox the cost of his jet boat tickets back and forth and a meal. Getting met in Tagbilaran airport is free, likely I'll meet you there myself.

Anyone wanting to attend Dolores's birthday party can do that too.

Zkribbler is still the only sure thing...anyone else firm up their plans yet?

Planning to fly with you, if I can.

I'm also trying to negotiate with a friend of mine to hold off on paying some of the money that I owe him so that I can go.

Right now, I'm moving again in September, so I have to pay 350+ a deposit. I get 250 back on my current deposit when I move. I owe my friend 300, and I'll need enough for a month here plus the 900 to fly over.

So that comes to minimum 1200 dollars that I have roughly 2 months to earn. If he's stiff necked, that's 1500$.

All is lost...wonder what happened? Anyway it was about Panglao Island, which is connected to Bohol by a bridge located in Tagbilaran. Do a search for 'Panglao photos' and check out this tropical paradise Zkrib. Also look for Boracay island. Nice, but you have to take a boat there. A cruise to Manila costs about $35 for a cabin w/ shower and bathroom. From there you can connect almost anywhere.

The main cruise lines are WG&A and Negros Navigation. Search those and check out 'accomodations' and schedules to places of interest.

There's an interesting looking volcanic island between Bohol and Mindanao that needs exploring one of these years...'Camiguin island'. Search, check it out!
