Just exactly like that!
Whooohoooooo!!!!!!!
And speaking of the major events, I am hard at work scratching together the most intricate event series of the game, the Nilroggi Event Cycle....bet your last bottle that those will get the full treatment of spiffy screens....
An example, to whet a few appetites (and I can already picture this event on some of the artwork above)
Name: An Explorer Presents Himself
Category: Gog Cycle
Triggering: This event has a 0.5% cumulative per turn chance of occurring for a random player, beginning on turn one of the game.
Effect:
It is frequently the case that when you least want a thing to happen, that’s just exactly when it does. This phenomenon seems to have no preference for social standing, occupation, or much of anything else, either. Even powerful Lords who would be King must contend with it, it seems.
And so, it comes as less of a surprise than perhaps it should, when a daring explorer called Merle Priester presents himself to your court, along with a proposition.
Save for odd and disorganized raids, the Nilroggi have been quiet these many years, but perhaps that quietude is a lark, or the calm before the storm of their next invasion. If not, and their power is indeed broken, then exploring their network of caverns will be simple enough, with minimal resistance, and potentially yielding powerful advantages in terms of your war for control of the Basin.
If the Horde grows strong again, and is simply waiting for the perfect moment to strike, then this knowledge too, would be invaluable, and may be the very thing to cause your rivals to rally behind you as King to fend off the threat the Nilroggi represent.
Of course, it all comes down to money, and while Mister Priester is long on courage, money is something he’s a bit short on, and so, has come looking to you for provisioning.
· Fully Fund Merle Priester’s expedition, and spare no expense! The Nilroggi threat is too large to be ignored….we simply must know what they are doing! (-300g, lose 4 (random, non-mercenary troops, at least two of which will be cavalry, if you have at least two cavalry).
· Partially Fund Priester’s expedition….we’re interested, but definitely not going to simply hand this man a blank check! Explorers are notorious for overstating their needs in any case. (-175g, lose 3 random troops—can be mercenaries.
· Pah! With the war on, this venture is a waste of time! Send this fool away! (this event vanishes, and will not reappear for you for the rest of this game. Selecting this option means that another player has a 100% chance of seeing this event on his next turn, as the Explorer moves elsewhere, in search of funding….if, after making the rounds to all player in the current game, the explorer cannot find funding, this event deactivates for the remainder of the game and will not reappear again).
Other Notes: This event will only appear for each player one time per game. Either level of funding serves as the trigger for the next event in the cycle. Fully funding the expedition gives it a 55% chance of success. Partially funding gives it a 35% chance of success – these percentages are not known to the player. Either level of funding starts a “turn counter” and after 3-6 (random) turns have elapsed, the next event in the series will occur. (check for expedition success or failure, and display the next event accordingly).

Name: A Request from the Leadership
Category: Gog Cycle
Triggered: This event is activated for any player who controls Charles Vega or Baron Von Helmsdenvoor. For those players, this event has a 2% cumulative per turn chance of occurring. The first player to receive this event AND funds the expedition requested, deactivates this event for the remainder of the game. If funding is not given, this event is deactivated for the player who denied funding, and will not appear again.
Effect: It is rare for a war leader to request a private audience with the King, but that is precisely what has happened here. Leadername$ has left his post as the head of Armyname$ and ridden hard to make the Capitol to meet with you regarding a “matter of utmost import,” according to the scroll you received three days earlier. Intrigued as to what might prompt one of your invaluable War Leaders to do such a thing, you agreed to the meeting.
“My Liege.” He greets you as you enter the study where he has been waiting. “I trust you are well?”
You nod, and study him appraisingly, waiting for him to continue.
He looks decidedly uncomfortable, and your exasperation grows. It’s the middle of the night, and the man should be out leading Armyname$, not standing about in your study wasting time! “Out with it, man! Such haste made to get here and now you are dumbstruck!?”
The look of discomfort changes to one of outright pain, and he reaches into the folds of his riding cloak. For half a second your mind flits over the word “assassin,” but that cannot be. The man is as loyal as they come. Still you cannot fathom what mere object might be so important that….
The sight of it steals your breath as your General throws it on the floor between you.
“Mother of God.” You whisper. Stories were one thing. Everybody’s heard the stories, but to see one up close. The head of a Nilroggi….
“This one came from a band that attacked us just o’er a week ago.” He tells you quietly. “I’ve never been a big believer in Witchery or such things, but as J’honsa gives me breath, I tell you I felt his thoughts…..He fell into me as he was dying, and we got all tangled up together and wh…when he put his arms around me, for that fleeting last second of life, I could feel him….hear him sending our position back to his kind…calling for others….”
Others.
That one word sends a chill down your spine.
“Yes.” You whisper grimly to the night.
“We must know.” Your General adds. “I’ll lead the party direct, if you like.”
· Fully fund the General’s expedition to discern Nilroggi strength in your area (-200g, lose 4 random non-mercenary troops, two of which must be cavalry if you have a sufficient number of cavalry, forever lose the service of leadername$) (85% chance to succeed, not shown to player)
· Partially fund the expedition (-100g, lose three random troops, forever lose the service of leadername$) (55% chance to succeed, not shown to player)
· Deny the request for this expedition. Leadername$ is simply too valuable to risk in this manner. (event vanishes, and will not reappear for you again).
Other Instructions: Either level of funding starts a “turn counter” and after 3-6 (random) turns have elapsed, the next event in the series will occur. (check for expedition success or failure, and display the next event accordingly).
