I played the turn (10 BC sent) before reading that terrible threat.  Here's what we wrote to the Byzantine leader in private communacation:

I settled in the jungle on the tip of your continent. I was hoping your Swordsman would let the Arab people enjoy those dyes, realizing that you can turn your military machine against our lone unsupported town any time you like, after we have cleared the jungle for you.
Believe it or not, that is the closest luxury to Mecca!

The fact that there is a body of water between Arabia and the unclaimed jungle, and Arab settlers managed to get there first, just shows our determination to overcome the enormous obstacles set by the cruel RNG, and proves that we have the right to those dyes, as they are very close to Mecca.
Arabia is not a major player in this game, but is easily defended and can swing the balance of power, once there are only three civilizations standing. It might not be wise to make enemies over a jungle city.
