we are in the Northeast quadrant for whats left of Bonnie and also under a tornado watch..

strong storms headed this way..

NOW in a few days Charley..thats gonna be the one of concern..

remember folks and from a veteran of almost now a dozen hurricanes..

The following are whats to watch for.

#1-NEVER "focus" of the eye as the Hurricane (where the eye lands)
#2-Its water through storm surg & flooding that does most damage
#-3 Tornadoes Tornadoes and Tornadoes
#4 The Northeast quadrant is allways considered the worse because of the counter clokwise rotation and that is the "whip" of the storms fury

Che you lok under the gun first and if it crosses Florida and gets a little taste of the warm gulfstream off the southeastern US Coast then I will be right up the road for a whiff of Charley's Nastiness

A couple tornados touched down in Jacksonville, on the other side of town. Considering Jacksonville is the largest city in the lower 48, that's not very close. No one was killed, but I didn't get any info on what happened where Bonnie made landfall.

One guy they interviewed was sitting outside under a walkway at a hotel when the tornado hit. He didn't know what was going on, just that all of a sudden there was a lot of debris flying at him. He decided to run, but couldn't, so he dropped down, then grabbed on to a pole and held on for dear life. You should see the hotel. There is no way he should have been able to hold on to that pole.

Charlie will be a catagory 1 hurricane by the time it reaches Jacksonville tomrrow around midnight. If it goes as projected, it's going to clobber Tampa. They're expecting a 13-16 foot storm surge, which means most likely the city is going to be flooded to the second story. It's projected to be a Catagory 3 storm by the time it makes landfall there. Glad I don't live in Tampa.

The eye of the hurricane is expected to pass to the West of the city. The kitties and I will be riding out the storm in our master bathroom. It's a cinderblock building, but the windows aren't for ****. In all probablity, I will not be able to check in for a few days, as it's extremely likely the whole region will be without power. I'll get ahold of Theben to let you guys know I'm alright. Don't assume the worst if you don't hear from me right a way because I expect the lines will be jammed with five million other people trying to tell their loved ones they're okay (or not).

Things to do tomorrow:
take everything off the balcony
duct tape windows to prevent shattering
move computers, papers, and discs to middle bathroom
remove glass doors from master bath
fill tub with water
put futon, pillows, and blankets in shower
bring cat food, water, and kitty litter into master bath

This is really gonna suck.

I wish this place had decent windows. Hell, maybe I'll get lucky, and all the windows will be blown out. Then I'll get new ones.

Apparently, it's going to be strong enough to make it all the way up here to Bahston...so I can't imagine how strong it will be when it hits the penninsula...

This hurricane stuff really just seemed to arise out of nowhere...you know, we've been in Hurricane Season for about three months, and this is just the third?

Only in terms of money. The Galveston hurricane last century was the worst in terms of human life. Over 5,000 died in that one cuz no one believed the meteorologist that a hurricane was coming.

I am finishing at work now as I have several bids to put out for next week. We have had 1/2 dozen Tornados hit us overnite from remnants of BONNIE!!

at least 4 people reported killed and huge power outages/damages in the New Hanover County (Wilmington) then Carteret County had at least 2 touchdown.

Reportedly in the Rocky Point community where we get aggregates and cement from for our plants power was out as a large swath was cut around 4:30 this morning taking our 30 + homes in its path

Thats why I started this thread because people need to be aware that it is, as I stated earlier, not allways the "EYE" that people should focus on.

We will, according to current forecasts in eastern North Carolina be under the gun around late Saturday night-early Sunday morning.

You mean Americans never pay attention. I think they were hit pretty badly a few years ago.

Just saw the reports from Cuba. Havana didn't seem badly hit, but Charlies was only a Cat 2 storm. It's expected to reach Cat 3 this after noon.

Governor Bush was just on. Pinellas and Hilsboro counties (Tampa/St. Pete) are being told that they have only an hour left to evacuate and after that, it's too late.

Damage to Tampa is expected to be in the billions.

For some reason, the official projection is still to make landfall somewhere near Tampa. The radar track, however, has it making landfall in Fort Myers, about 100 miles to the South, and an area which has has not been evacuated, AFAIK.

If the storm keeps heading the way it is now, it will come out far to the south of us, a little north of West Palm Beach. I pretty sure I'm gonna be fine.
