I think there was.

Checked the data, there have been seven named storms (Atlantic and Pacific) with her name since 1962, five of which progressed to hurricane strength, only one of which hit land, in Texas, in 1970.

Oh, and thanks for the headsup, GT. Generally when the storms travel through the peninsula, they're much weaker by the time they get to me. Usually, this is the only way Jacksonville gets hit by a tropical cyclone, coming from the Gulf overland. That 120+ miles overland seems to take some of the wind out of it though.

And my friend wanted me to come visit Talahassee this weekend.

She's in Chicago, well away from these storms.

My only worry is if Charlie becomes a cat 5, it could still be plenty strong when it hits Jax. Andrew was a cat 2 when it exited the other side of Florida back in '92.

Our apartment agency told us just to tape our windows if we get hit by a storm. Like that's gonna do squat. If one window goes, they all go, and I'll have a vortex of glass shards flying around.

Plus the power will probably go out and I won't be able to post on Poly.

IIRC Fran we were without about a week..

For me..ICE!! I have lots of Bottle in my Freezer frozen so when it (The power) goes out and after usually like 3 days what is in the freezer starts to melt or thaw out at least the bottles will have COLD Water..

Tractor Trailer loads came here with ICE and it was like they had gold..

Ok..well..the tape on windows pretty much IS useless with the only real help it gives is keeping the shards from "Possible" going airborne..

Possible I say because that tape on a window when hit by a 90+ MPH gust well..go figure..not much of a chance..

Well, looks like I'm gonna have my first huricane. Charley is forecast to hit Jacksonville with gusts up to 100mph.

I believe the F-word is approriate here.

I guess I should start figuring out what I'm gonna hide in the bathoroom.

It's not gonna be strong enough for an evacuation, and I wouldn't leave my cats behind anyway.

And this room, all my papers all over the place. Crap, crap, crap.

G'luck and just observe my friend..you know the deal..even at the 24 hour stage when its knocking on the door it has the potential to change..

Well, fortunately it's not likely to get stronger, coming overland like it is. The eye should be falling apart by the time it gets here, assuming it even comes this way.

If I lived on the West coast, I'd be considerably more worried.

Well, now I have that incentive to clean this room up I needed.

I suppose having all my belongings destroyed isn't such a bad thing. If I save the important stuff, the cash settlement afterwards should be enough to move Bunnygrrl and I someplace else besides this job foresaken town.

I really hope the storm changes path. First, because I'd rather you didn't take a beating from this thing.

Second, because that latest map you showed has the storm resulting in rain in Vermont this weekend, which would suck for me. I'll be at the Phish show, and I remember well (from last year) what it's like when you have upwards of 60,000 people slogging around through fields of mud. Ugh.

BUT I would say that in Eastern North Carolina where I be..1 hour North of Wilmington on the coast and for those tracking just 10-12 minutes by car from Topsail Beach (If we get a storm you will hear this one mentioned!!)

We should get if these storms come like they say 10+ inches of rain..as most Hurricanes dump 4"-6 "s each of rain

EWe do not need that nope not in the least

We rare already facing flood conditions when we get these 3" frog stranglers in the afternoon

This is the first time in over a hundred years Florida's been hit by back to back cyclones. Jeb has put the state into a state of emergency and called out the National Guard that isn't over in Iraq (and we're the state that has the most Guardsmen abroad ).

**** me, Charlie looks like it's gonna be over Jax again.

We have a tornado watch for the next two hours cuz of Bonnie.
