Avatars disappearing during peak times Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I was wondering if we could somehow turn the avatars off at an even lower traffic time, and then allow slightly high traffic before we get the forum busy message.

And again, I think turning off smiles during peak time would be good too.

You seem to use it at least once a day. The smilies aren't even very good quality and generally ruining the atmosphere kinda. And the lack of smiles gives a nice nostalgia.

The DL dance doesn't create load problems. Each person only has to download the smiley once. Heck, they've probably already downloaded it before simply by clickling the smilies legend or something.

Each smiley has to be downloaded AT MOST once per day. No load on the server.

Some people redownload them every time they start their browser. Which can be multiple times per day. And when you click refresh/reload, many times the images are reloaded too.
