Guide me, noble Peers, where and with whom should I play?

good value...

lots of good players in this lot

and some dodgey characters as well...

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Well, one thing I like seeing is a good attitude around here.

Rather than me starting something afresh... who wants me, and where?

I was pretty good in terms of turn-play with Nathan in the AU game... we got further than any other pair, and much faster then any, due to good turn practices.

[Said again: F-P, my hoped-for-mentor, where are you? "F-P, F-P... come back! come back!"]

Hopefully Amy won't need to worry - unless you get into masses of them, PBEMs take up very little time per day or week. Not NEARLY as much as SP games or DGs.

Got spare money?

Number of 2-4 player games you are involved in:
None, and never will be. I don't like the duel type of game.

Number of 5-8 player games you are involved in:
Three

Number of PBEM games played to completion:
Didn't keep record, but about five. Thrice more games died due to low activity.

List your top 3 favourite PBEM games:
None, to be honest

Indeed. PBEMs actually don't take up much of my time.

Except for one 3-player PBEM I'm in where we can sometimes get marthon turn-passing going. That's sucked up an evening or two. So just stick with the 8-player ones that tend to die.

Actually - you both raise good points. I too like the larger games; I have a handful of games that are daily, but I am able to handle a 28 game portfolio without hours and hours of on-line time. And this provides tons of variety in civ activity - and a number of threads which are a real hoot.

AU601 with Rhoth is a bit of a time consumer - but an excellent game! And we are already through to 100bc in a limited number of sessions.

But as MWIA has pointed out - they are not the time hogs that demo games, or even an online MP game can be.

Yep, we've only been playing for about 20 days and we've made it through 120+ turns. It's been a great game...even though Beta ambushed my exploration warrior, never mind that he was questing to give Beta a despotic golden age.

And we casted him in bronze, and were going to place him a position of honour in Athens. But the barge sprung a leak crossing the River Aphrodite, so your warrior, covered in bronze, is now stuck somewhere in the mud at the bottom of the river. No worry though - in about 2000 years he will be discovered, cleaned up, and put in a museum.

I agree. You should see the recent pirate banter in the Grand Passage thread. It's quite fun.

Between the banter, the near-turn-a-day pace, and the fact that I'm totally kicking everyone's arse it's no wonder that that's my favorite PBEM.

2-4 player games you are involved in:

Waterworld - a 1 on 1 with Mickeyj in its early stages. A large archipelago map, random everything else, lots of AI’s.
Rugby Finals – named by Paddy in very bad taste after the recent tri-nations rugby tournament. We all supported a different rugby team. Can’t remember who won. In this game we are playing 2 civs each against 2 AI’s on Sid level.
Easygoing PBEM – 4 players random small map.
Iron Civer C – what a lot of blood and guts there has been in this one!
The Box of Chocolates – a random game on a large map, no AI’s, we each control 2 civs.

5-8 player games you are involved in:

The Five Continents of Eden – 5 players on 5 islands on a standard map, each island fairly equal in land and resources, each unique civ has 3 traits and 2 UUs.
The Sundowners – 8 players on a massive map, each with primo starting land and 5 settlers.
The World of Hoth – 5 players random standard map.
6 players, 2/day – actually only 5 players, but the pace of this game has been outstanding.
European PBEM – chugging along nicely given there are 6 of us.

PBEM games played to completion:

AU601
2 Dog vs Wolf games
1 game with Mickeyj (can’t remember the name of it)

All 4 of those were only 2 player games.

List your top 3 favorite PBEM games:

Easygoing Game - the banter has been great and there appears to be lots of shady diplomacy going on. The quicker games are the most fun I’ve found, when they flow a bit more you don’t loose touch as quickly of your short, medium, and long term strategies.
Iron Civer C – this game has been a bit of a roller coaster!
6 players 2/day – nice, quick and very enjoyable.

There was sort of an agreement to let you be in the lead so we wouldn't have to listen to your damned pirate whining.

Besides, its not over 'till the fat lady sings, and despite our best scouting efforts, she is nowhere to be seen.

Spencers game. 4 humans partial game blog and facts

We averaged 2-3 turns/day. Found and fixed numerous bugs as we raced along (I thought it would be the first PtW PBEM finished) until we finally hit a bug we couldnt fix and the game unfortunately died.

Team game 6 humans

Still ongoing. Slow play due to 6 players widely scattered around the world but fun so far.

***PBEM*** 5 humans

The only game completed. Some very interesting diplomacy and IMO it showed some of the severe limitations of mp civ caused by the inclusion of rules that are required for the AI to function well.
