Yeah. It doesn't seem like either party really cares about State's Rights just for the sake of State's Rights, but they choose to support State's Rights when it benefits them on a particular policy.

People like the idea, but can't resist the opportunity to take away the rights of states other than their own, or in the case where they have minority opinion in their state to welcome federal authority.

The rationale for the States having some special power invested in them died about a century and a half ago.

The Federalist/Republicans,., which is a very weak link at best, were fighting for Federal authority back then. We proboby reached the leve they wanted about 150 years ago. What we have now is far beyond the scope of what they were advocating. So ont he surfice it seems like a flip flop on that issue, but in reality that topic is so context sensetive there is no way to judge it.

Whaleboy, give us a link.

The only "civil rights" issue before the nation today is the gay rights issue. Right or wrong, Repubs are supporting a Federal solution. The Dems a States Rights solution.

In one of the Demo debates, though, Sharpton sharply (no pun intended) attacked the other's reliance on States Rights and supported a Federal solution to the problem.

So, it appears that the Demo party has returned to its roots. Ditto the Republican party.
