Smiley continues to hold the lead in technology, this turn discovering "Geography" and using his advanced knowledge to gift "Architecture" to the Most Evil Empire of Whoha. The rest of the Societies all research or remain at architecture.

Both The Paragon of Empire and the Land of Cubium sought to create the Acropolis but Cubium managed to get their project completed before Paragon could muster the necessary materials and labour. Thankfully for the despot of Paragon, all materials purchased were able to be sold without a loss of any gold and all the money was returned to the treasury.

Peace reigns supreme in the land of Society, but new armies were conscripted in and the Paragon of Empire .

Not sure why I am having no luck with either bmp or gif files, maybe it is the fact that I am using Paint.

I seem to remember Smiley or someone mentioning another free program at some point in the last game, maybe I will go back and check that out.

But for now, I am just going to attach another jpg file, they seem to work just fine (and if this one doesn't display.... )

---------------
Travelers report of some sort of ancient civilization in the south part of the world, near the vicinity of longitude E and latitude 8. Further investigations, however, revealed that the village was deserted and the huts empty.

A team of archaeologists discovered that the society had prospered until the ascent of a ruler with the fatal flaw of having a difficult to spell name. On one tablet alone, over six different spellings were found. Asking some nomads in the area, one replied with the following story.

...Emperor Sizpim was annoyed and felt disrespected by his subjects addressing him improperly. Let them say what they want, but don't let them write down all the false names, he decreed, fearful of confusion in the afterlife. It was difficult for business in the imperial court to proceed however without using his name. Eventually, he was fed up and outlawed the alphabet. It did him no good, though, as now he was left with little record for posterity.

Great post! "Sizpim" I like it

---------------------------------------------------------

On topic, I see two problems coming up for me in this game:

Trade: I know that you can trade up to your tech level away, but can you trade across another Society? (In other words, Spaced right now is within trade distance of Jonny as there are only 3 squares between them and they are both at tech 4, but Smiley is between them). Can someone trade to any society that their tech level allows them to reach or can they not pass through another society to trade? (I can see pros and cons to allowing this or disallowing it, for simplicity sake I would like to go with allowing anyone in range as fair game and assume there is free passage for Caravans/Freight passing through another Societies territory).

Revolution: Very soon we are going to start getting into revolutions in the Societies I suspect. It was agreed at the start of this game that the penalties are too large for a revolution and that the societies are allowed one area of production in a revolution. My question is two fold...If a society in a revolution spends all its Gold on say Armies, and is left with no gold, does it then still not get any Tax Income this turn and thus can essentially do nothing in the next turn? (due to no gold from taxation??)...or have we allowed Tax Income during the revolution year as well.....or is Taxation one of the options that you can have happen during the Revolution (as your one area which is allowed while cities, technology, military etc would not be if Tax was the option chosen)?

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

My interpretations/thoughts:

Trade: Crossing over other's land is OK unless you are at war. (with Silk Road, you can still trade with anyone anywhere)

Revolution: Being able to tax and produce one area makes the penalty too small. Players can choose 1 phase to do, including tax, and Production is lumped together. Though it would still work split into the subphases.

So in my example above, if Spaced was at war with you, would he still be able to trade with Jonny (it would involve crossing your territory)?

And without allowing tax and one area of production, have we changed anything in revolutions or do we just move the penalty from the revolution turn to the following turn? (because if you use the gold you have during your revolution year and don't generate any more income, there will be little you can do in the following year unless the other societies trade with you during the revolution)

Edit: Smiley, do you think it would be worthwhile adding the ruleset to the topped thread in this forum with the rules to all the Forum Games? It might help generate interest for Society V. I would post it, but I would prefer that you do so, both as the originator of the game and the person responsible for keeping the evolving rules up to date.

In first example, no.

Another proposal was to allow tax and one phase, but halve tax income.

to adding ruleset. Let's work out these things first, I got a feeling that a couple more gray areas might pop up yet.

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

Received 3/5 orders so far, I am planning on processing the turn at around 22:00 hours my time (about 8 1/2 hours from now) if all the orders are in by then.

I hope we have resolved the revolution by then, as very soon I suspect we are going to start into revolutions.

Smiley's (or whoever's) suggestion of 1/2 tax income in addition to one phase of production works for me. Hopefully there is a consensus by the time I return.

You say you want a revolution?
Being disappointed with their Despot's descision to construct the Acropolis in 1000 BC, the people of the Land of Cubium cubed their Despot Gamecube and elected his descendant Gamecube64 to the role of their first Consul of the new republic.

Cities
Procreation has resulted in massive overcrowding in the Societes, neccessitating the addition of 2 more cities in the Most Evil Empire, 3 more cities in the Land of the Dudes, and 3 new cities also in the Paragon of Empire.

Science
The land of focuses on maintaining their technological superiority this turn and add the knowledge of Religion to enlighten their people about themselves, the knowledge of Espionage to enlighten their people about other societies and Industrialization to just plain lighten their cities. Both the land of the Dudes and the Paragon of Empire embark on identical research projects and discover Geography and Religion. The Most Evil Empire is content to just locate those sharing the planet with them and discover Geography.

Wonders
The Land of with the majority of its citizens now worshipping the Horse that appeared in their land several millenia earlier, proclaim a religious Jihad in honour of their Horse God.

Military
Conscripts were the order of the day with new armies being enlisted in , the Paragon of Empire, the Land of the Dudes and in the Most Evil Empire.

Note to players, lacking any direction on revolutions with the exception of the discussion with Smiley, I decided that you all were okay with my call on this one . As it should be obvious, Gamecube revolted to Republic (Acropolis) on this turn, and I determined from the discussion to allow him one phase of production and to generate Tax Revenue (halved). Gamecube did not provide direction on what phase of production he wished to pursue so I allowed his Tax Income to be full (not halved) as a default. Let me know if anyone disagrees with this decision and we will discuss it in game. In the future, please indicate in your revolution year what phase of production you would like to enact or I will default it to tax production.

Turn #6

Market Day in Society
Today the Dudes sent some rusted Spike's to Gamecube, while split their Sandman toast between the Paragon of Empire and the Dudes. The Paragon of Empire meanwhile decided the Dudes were most deserving of their Skanky Wine, but also sent some to and the most Evil Empire. The Cubium's sent their entire supply of roasted Theben to

Government
Waiting to see the results of Cubium being in a new "Republic" the other leaders waited anxiously to see if they continued to hold their people in thrall of their magnificence or if their would be hopeful of keeping their head attached to their bodies.

Infinite Cubium Sleaze
In the most massive land grab to date, the Republic of Cubium settled 9 new cities and laughed at the meager efforts of the Despot of the Paragon of Empire to add 5 new cities and the both chuckled together at the single new city in each of and the Most Evil Empire.

Science
Not content to continue to lead a of Idiots, the Despot of directed that Representative Government and Mass Education be sought and added to the minds of the populace. The Dudes, seeing the value of representative government for themselves also sought this knowledge to go with their newly acquired research of Espionage and Industrialization. In the Paragon of Empire, Industrialization was their final goal but they were happy to discover that with Industrialization, you must first espy Espionage. Most Evil Empires spurn the lesser knowledges, but in this case, the knowledge of Espionage was too great a lure, and coupled with their Most Evil Religion, they figured their science was unbeatable. The Cubiums continued to lag in science and had to be content to discover not only where their neighbours were (Geography) but what they Hell they meant by Religion .

Well I Wonder, Wonder, Wonder, who...who will build a Wonder this turn?
The Paragon of Empire joins the Wonder fun with a Mafia forming in their midst. Paragonians were later heard to ask...why did we encourage this again?

Meanwhile, has been busy working on the Railroad, and with the Golden Spike completed work on a project that will enable the construction of cities wherever they wish.

Military
As borders were formed between the various Societies, many new armies were constripted in all Societies. In an unusual effort to keep armies content, the Despot of ordered that all armies, new and old be provided with marijuana and told that they would very soon be making and ....
