Just googled it and when I came back you had already posted. Yikes.

I beat the leader of the free world by more than 150 points on the SAT. I'm not sure whether that's or . That's fairly scary.

But it gets worse. That score is from when I took the SAT at the age of 13.

Tired of ads?

I beat him by almost 300 points, but I don't see anything scary in that. Judging by test scores, Bush is smarter than the vast majority of the population, and raw intelligence certainly isn't the only characteristic needed to be a good leader.

Am I the only one who wonders about why Kerry's scores haven't come out, though?

Good job.

One would expect that the Presidency would end up going to one of the "best and the brightest", but none of the Presidential candidates ever seem to come close.

BTW, if Kerry got awful SATs, how did he get into Yale? (Not necessarily an argument, just a question.)

I don't know about that. Nixon, Carter and Clinton were all extremely intelligent men. All mediocre to downright bad presidents, though...

Carter graduated in the top-10% of his class at the Naval Academy. That's pretty impressive.

Nobody doubts Carter's intelligence. It's the personality that went along with that intelligence that was the problem.

Let's not turn this into a circle-jerk over SAT scores, shall we? I just want to know why people think Bush is dumb and Kerry is smart with no real evidence to back up that theory.

What the hell is a likely voter, why is not all registered voters likely voters, and why is there some people that are not registered voters but likely voters or the other way around?

When I read a poll, I want straight answers to those questions.

I don't think Bush is dumb - I don't think Kerry is smart either.

Where Bush has a huge advantage over Kerry imo is he seems to be able to connect with ordinary people. He's likeable, I can see it, it can't be denied.

If I had to choose who to have a beer with, it would be Bush.

Jag, from my understanding, the SAT scores from that era do not translate straight into modern era scores. Add 100 points for both Bush and Gore to get their modern equivalent. Bush: 1306, adjusted. Gore: 1455, adjusted.

I had 1395 in the same era as Bush and Gore, which is equivalent to 1495 in today's era.

BTW, what was Clinton's. Everyone acknowledges that he is (was?) quite intelligent.

Reagan won 49 states in his re-election bid. Bush would be lucky to win 39, and I wouldn't be surprised if he won by a paper-thin EC margin of less than 20 votes. To win as many states as Reagan did, he'll have to pick up states like Connecticut, California, Maryland, Delaware, and New York. And Bush is no Ronald Reagan.

I hope you read the article quoted by Drake. The last time we saw poll numbers like these, Nixon won 49 states. That too was a time of war. The Dems hated Nixon with a passion that exceeded their hatred of Bush. Trust me. They nominated a hard line appeaser who said he would crawl all the way to Hanoi for peace.

The major difference with Kerry is that he has an anti-war record that he is trying to run away from with his latest reincarnation as a hardline terror fighter. The reason he is now behind in the polls is that many people no longer buy this fresh new image because of the Swiftboat Vets and because of the Republican convention.

It should also be noted that, according to Gallup, Kerry is the only candidate in history to actually lose voter support after his convention.

Polling Report put the Time poll up. Apparently, the Bush and Kerry totals pushed leaners in the post-convention poll, but did not push leaners in the pre-convention poll (which was 46-44-5 in a 3-way race, 46-46 in a two-way race). It's a bounce, but not as big (and still bigger than in the other polls). The specific question, FWIW:

quote:

"Suppose the 2004 election for president were being held today, and you had to choose between John Kerry and John Edwards, the Democrats, and George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, the Republicans. For whom would you vote?" If undecided: "Even though you haven't made up your mind yet, do you lean more toward supporting Kerry or Bush?"

And I'm still waiting for some battleground state polls.
