small is relative. 2 times 7 attackers, 2 muskets and 2 cannons is just enough to cause some mess. for a full scale invasion i'd probably need 3 times the amount.
for an example: alexman attacked me a PBEM game (where i had a magnificent start) with a stack of 25 medinfs/swordsmen, around 20 hoplites and about 12 catapults.... at that in the beginning of the medieval ages.
now THAT'S a killer stack

currently, babylon is willing to withdraw all its forces if sumeria gives up the 6 most northern cities or for 200 gpt. depending on how the war progresses this offer can vary in to either side's favour.

if i can educate the babylonian intelligence, and the babylonians navigator for a minute.. there is no 5 civ tech alliance whatsoever, and i'll gladly show babylon the maps they dearly wanted that precipitated this entire conflict.

besides, the amount of sumerians enslaved (or outright slaughtered!) should be a well enough revenge for your alleged 'killed' seamen.

If you desire peace at all then you should be more realistic in your demands, I hardly think the Sumerain people have the economy to muster 200GPT and Mongolia will not pay your blood money!!!

Remove your troops and then we can discusss what compensation your people are due for Sumerias earlier attacks on your fleets.

about the tech alliance: well, i see every other turn a tech appear and a turn later all other civs have it too, including the AIs.

sorry, no peace now... too late for begging.
i spent so much time and money building up my forces. i need to use them in action now (and hope for leaders for some decent rushing and armies).

OOC it has absolutely nothing to do with you as an individual player in a game who trades tech with who, unless you had an agreement with someone not to trade on techs you have traded to them!!!

When I research a tech I see who I can trade it with that is my perogative and thats a fact.

I think me and you had a similar discussion not so lng back in another PBEM via an email you had sent to me.

Tell me if Im wrong here Id love to know what actually obsesses you to believe it is for you to control who trades what with whom ???

babylon spent several hundred gold checking out several sumerian cities and have seen that the defences are minimal and completely lack offensive power (except for some trebuchets and 3 horsemen).

unwinnable or not, it brings some spice into the game.

i'm not controlling, it's free for you to trade however you want (within agreement boundaries of course).

it's just a pity to sell techs to the AI for 5g and their world map.

well, first of all, there's no need to swear. trash talk is fine, but please don't get personal. war is as much a part of the game as diplomacy, expansion and economy. you can't blame me for playing the game.

and then: ok, it doesn't concern me, if you trade techs to the AI or not. but then i could also say it doesn't concern you what i do in sumerian lands and who gives you the right to be the mediator?

i'm willing to risk losing in order to bring some spice into the game. PBEMs are not just about victory, but also about having fun playing against worthy oponents (unlike the AI who plays very predictable)

I censored my vulgarity and used it to express my frustration with your continued mention of a five civ unholy tech alliance, it was not meant to be personal rather an expressive !! like exclamation marks!! and it was done under OOC!!

I have not told you what you must do at all I have pointed out your choices, and I have done that in character. You have had a niggle at me before in another game about my trading of techs to the AI, and I see no plausible reason for you to be concerned . Its none of your business who players trade with be they AI or Human.

Im not blaming you for playing the game, I dont recall doing or saying anything to give you that impression. I have posted some in character and some OOC stuff , maybe you are confused.

As for my in character assertion that you must leave our continent and that I should mediate, well you are correct I do not have any right to force you to do my will but I have not actually said that have I!! I have posted some stuff which you can either go along with or go against it is your free will.

Please if you wish to debate with me do not twist facts, and do not assume the right to lecture me about my use of language. Im a man of the world and have been here for almost 40 years now, I think Im old enough to swear when exasperated.

On another point in the game I see no real threat to your civ from any of our civs on our continent, you already have a massive territory and a massive lead. Im not sure if other nations know your maps but I have them from my trades with AI's.

ok, obviously i've mixed up some OOC and non-OOC things. sorry about that.

as for the trading stuff: you don't understand. i'm not _blaming_ you for doing that, just noticing it. my comment on the unholy alliance was an in-character comment, meant as trash talk and as another phony reason for war. it's clear that i don't need an invasion to retalliate for the unprovoked attacking of my ships. 10 frigates bombing the coast would have been plenty in terms of revenge.

but smellymummy gave me an official reason to attack. although it's a small one, it's nonetheless a reason. the real reason however is that you guys are catching up like hell in technology, and that, while all of you are only in monarchy... no question that with democracy i stand little chance holding off all 3 together. that scares me and that's why i have to do something against it.
