Dan Rather showed a National Guard record released by the White House that also had a purported superscript "th". I don't have a copy of that record, so I'm only going from memory. But it appeared to me that the "th" that appeared on that record was considerably different from the superscript "th" that appears the allegedly forged CBS documents. Rather it appeared to me that the "th" was a lowercase "t" and lowercase "h" half-spaced up, which was a conventional way of using IBM's Selectrics to write "superscript."

Anyone can provide a link to the record that Rather showed on CBS Evening News, we can make a direct comparison.

Also Dan Rather did not mention the use of "smart quotes" in several of the memoranda. I am quite sure that IBM Selectrics in that era did not have "smart quotes".

The result of this, barring something like Bush caught being Osama's gay lover, is the election is decided. Ordinary attrition or a sudden shaping up in the kerry camp, or even a series of medium flub the the Bush camp will no sufice to swing this back. Without something spectacular, the Kerry campagin will no recover even from the current level of suspicion. If there is found any freal figerprints of Kerry's campaign or the DNC on this, it will be a veritable landslide, and likely swing a few senate seats.

I don't if it was mentioned here by others, but Dan Rather really had a lot of arrogance when he self-importantly demanded that Bush answer the "serious" charges raised by the CBS report even while everyone else in the world was demanding that CBS come clean on its sources and even while of the putrid stink of forgery waifted fouly from the "Killian" documents posted on its web site.

You think so? I honestly don't think people would care even if they found out Kerry himself sat down and typed it out. There are going to be people that will vote for Kerry becuse their hate has blinded them to anything he can do.

Unless CBS says the Kerry campaign gave them the documents, then the public wont even remember this by late october. Perhaps if this would have happened this time next month then I would agree. It's still a lttle too much time left to pronounce the death of the Kerry campaign. Don't get me wrong id like nothing better for that to happen, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

There is just something that doesn't add up here. Has the Kerry campaign said much about these fakes? Not really. I think they are keeping quiet...

At those who think this election will be decided by "this controversy"

1. People whjo say that are living in an echo chamber of right-wing sources that give a damn about this- otherwise, this is minor news (give less coverage to begin with that the whole swift boat "story")

2. Some of you seem to have no clue about the media. If it were trully a "liberal conspiracy", then these accusations of forgery would get no press outside of Fox and the right-wing media. None at all, and the stroy would be sidelined. The media is strong enough to make stories out of nothing, and nothing out of real stories.

3. These are accusations. I love it how accusations become truths all of a sudden-and most people know that, just as they porbalby thought the memos just more accusations to begin with.

Denial is a silly thing isn't it?

There already has been a source showing the clear errors in the source, and how they are fraud. These aren't accusations, but facts. If you want to refuse to accept facts, fine. Just let it be known it is not showing yourself in a good light. If the DNC was the source, it will be pinned on them as well as CBS.
