Uh... hillarious. Now I understand what somebody meant when he mentioned looking up the very early Mafias and wondering why the heck anybody played 'em.

Mafias, if you're feeling merciful, head this way first. I signed up before it was decided that the game end up this way, sadly.

It's played the same way, there is just no pretense of a supposed plot (which everyone ignores, and many don't even bother to read).

Oh, I understand. It's just that I ignored Mafia games at first for precisely this reason, and only joined once they started doing the plotty ones.

There are two reasons I participate in the Mafia games:
1) I actually enjoy the supposed plots which everyone doesn't ignore. Well, at least most of them.
2) The detective work can be fun, if the GM knows what he's doing.

If there's going to be no plot, and we're just going to be doing random guesses, I mean, crap, I already made a computer program to calculate the percentages for random guessing villagers. This will be like watching the AI play itself in Tic-Tac-Toe. A game with a good plot and incomprehensible clues (like duke o' york's Mafia on the Nile) is fun in the sense of watching Europa Universalis play out by the AI, and a game with good clues and a slim plot is like playing Civ2. Heck, I'm normally a fan of bizarre and cruel forms of death (and have had several prepared for the day I eventually get to be a Mafia), but it requires at least SOME context to be fun.

Now, I'm not saying that isn't for some people, but it isn't fun for me. So if the Mafia are willing, I'd prefer to step out and let the people who actually have fun with this play longer. Make sense?

Some story would be appreciated. Clues tend to be dropped more about the players than their characters anyway, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

There is also Assassin, if people are really unhappy and there's another GM to be had...

Otherwise, everybody join the pile on BK and KUCITEXASRANGER before it's too late.

And I'll stay in the Mafia.

We can have lots of fun without a story. I've played it that way in RL, and so long as people are willing to be talkatative, it's fun.

Where does talkative stop and spammy begin?

BTW Sheep, you need to put FG: in front of the title of the thread to let lord of the mark know that this is a forum game. I suppose rah could edit it for you if he's feeling generous or if lotm pesters him enough.

I totally agree with SnowFire (well, apart from the Nile reference ). The 'poly Mafia game is far more fun than the RL version simply because we have plots and clues. These clues need not be so obvious, but as long as they are there then the players can at least feel as if they have a chance of winning by skill, and not luck alone. What clues will we have in this pared-down game? Only the fact that we think a mafia might try to kill someone who voted for them in the turn before, and I don't think we've had a mafia who has done that for ages simply because it's too obvious.
Sheep, please provide at least a basic plot and some clues or I shall be up at dawn alongside SnowFire and DarkCloud to commit hara-kiri.

As can I. Sheep's freeform take on the theme is rather refreshing, a return to the roots if one can say so.

IRL games have no story, yes, but in them the wild accusation part is greatly accentuated by actually being there in person (body language, tones of voices, everything) so there's a whole lot of more communication going on. So of course it's enjoyable even without a story.

Guys, relax, Sheep said he'd have a story. A unit of US marines in an Afghan village.

He just didn't have time to do the write-up.

I'd prefer an Iraqi village, but even Afghan is fine. I'd like to see prominent figures from the American administration visiting this village.

And there were clues in Sheep's stories. Always. For those who troubled themselves to look for them.

I'm looking forward to this retro game. His Kill descriptions were always very amusing. And while the main focus wasn't the storyline, there was one.

Tired of ads?

There is a village. As for stories, the stories progress. The chracters are yourselves. Thus if you want to be a Miller then be a miller. I need remind you however that I am the Chieftan.

Also remember the fact that my deaths are gruesome and I drop slight clues admist many riddles make this game enjoyable. For those who forget this is in the style of the original mafia game.

One Mafia has sent in his orders, we await the second before the first vote begins.

Does it mean the even turn mafia sent the kill orders and not the odd turn one? Or are you going to kill two people at the time? Now that would be something.
