ok I am gonna make one more impassioned plea against a point system.
I think once a point system isset up the game will change from a "normal" game of civ - to a gimmicky game where the players try to figure out strategies to get points.
Having said that, I think we should do NO caravans. A caravan that builds a wonder is no quicker than one that establishes a trade route or vice versa.
I agree that if u take a city you should get to add that to the 12 you are allowed, so theoritically, in a 4 man game the winner could have 48 cities. The real question is - if u get a city taken - can u build city or do you have to take it back?
I think the rule should be that there is a 48 city max (if there are 4 players) and no player can build or discover more than 12.
But if I could get my way on only one rule, it would be,
NO POINT SYSTEM

48 city limit is good, but what happens in the event of an advanced tribe after the 12 have been built?
No caravans is good with me. No spies is fine, or we could just go with not allowing suitcase nukes.
DD, the idea IS to not be a "normal" game of civ. It is to make people think differently and not employ the same strategy that they have time and time before. It will still come down to the same basic principles that every civ game comes down to, that being the haves and have nots. There will be many different avenues to win.
Come on man, give it a try, what do we have to lose?
Are we going to try and start this week, or are we going to need more time?

I did that ming. The email address is valid, has been valid. I receive mail with the account every day. No idea why it bounced.
I even updated the account with another valid email address, and submitted the contact form. No response on it. So I made this account.

Deity, that point chart seems decent. I think the wonders should be worth a bit more though. Maybe 3 or 4 points each? In addition to building the wonders, the civs must retain them to get the points. Which will likely require a significant investment in shields. Even obsolete wonders will be commodities, so guarding them will be a priority. 2 million citizens shouldnt have the same worth as a wonder IMO.
I'd say pull out the turns of aggression thing. We don't want to discourage conquest as a viable means of winning, if someone was to indeed choose that route.

OK - I'll give it a try.
Right now the points system suggested rewards primarily population, money and wonders. Just as an idea what about a point for being the first one to discover a tech.
How many points are we suggesting for a victory.
Are we starting Thursday. I get home around 8pm est on weeknites, so I'd like to start around 8:30pm. And I can play til about 12:30am maybe 1am.

Just looking at the point system again I have a few more suggestions. The ratio between pollution and wonders seems to close. (i.e. A wonder should be worth more than 2 pollution squares.) Same with population (1,000,000 citizens should be worth more thna 1 pollution square) I would suggest something along these lines
1st to get tech 2 pts
400 gold 1 pt
250,000 pop 1 pt (remember we only have 12 cities)
wonders 6 pts
pollution -1 pt
Space Ships 30, 20, 15, 10, 5
Well thats my suggestion. for what is worth. I am assuming we are doing RAH's Rules for everything not covered here.

Myself, I would rather reward for advanced technologies, rather than try to manage keeping track of who hit what techs first. That would require an announcement every time a goal tech was reached, and then a verification. Though if we can come up with an easy way of doing it, I'm ok with it.
A tally at the end of each session won't be a necessity I don't think, though it could be interesting to follow. I think city and unit counts, pg and whatever screenshots we might choose will be sufficient in tracking the game.
OK, so, all we need to do is verify if we have 4 or 5 civs (are you playing llube?), what the stated rules are, and if we are indeed starting this week.
If we need to amend the rules, we can further in the game, as long as it is approved by all in the game.
Also, who will host the game, and how we are going to contact each other? I haven't used ICQ in years. I don't have it installed, and have no intentions of reinstalling. I All I have for IM is AIM. My screen name is highfill78. If no one else uses aim, I guess PM here at poly would work.

Many of the point criteria will be known only by the player himself. This would be no different with techs since if you are first to a tech it shows as white on your science advisor screen if you arent first its blue (huts I believe are blue regardless if first or not - but they are not researched and thus shouldn't be rewarded).
I am assuming the way this will work is when someone has reached the victory point total, they will announce it, the game will be over and other players can verify that the player has indeed reached the point total. (Even with embassies you will never be certain of other players point totals at any point during the game.) To verify who is first to a tech simply count the white techs on the science advisor screen. Its simple and no record-keeping necessary.
My problem with predetermined techs is that it will encourage everyone to race to the same techs thus everyone will be encouraged to roughly follow the same strategy.
Anyways I guess the point is, that determining who gets a tech first is no more difficult than determining population or determining gold. If you guys don't like the tech idea thats OK - I just don't want to drop it because people mistakenly think it cant be managed easy.

Points look OK to me.
quick questions:
Did we agree on no caravans.
Are we playing RAH's rules for everything not covered?
What are barb settings?
I have AIM and Yahoo IM and ICQ so I shold be able to talk to everyone.
Anyways Ill try and get there early tonite if possible.
I know I might seem like a stickler on rules but I have learned a little extra time up front sorting these things out can save a lot of time and hard feelings later.
