Just remember that Alexander was the strongest one in the small Macedonia and only after becoming supreme ruler there (throne was given to him by birthright but supreme dictatorship could only be achieved by his own efforts) he went to conquer the world..

Those three who emerged after his death (Ptolemaius, Seleuces and whatwashisname), we're to be the strongest in a huge empire and when talking about human possibilities in those times, distances matter.

Yes, please compare mobility of Ghegis Khan's army and that of the Alexander, and now compare the size of their empires..don't you see any similarities?

Of course mobility doesn't solve all the problems, but it's one of the main things that influence how much a good conqueror will conquer (till he dies.. )
