I wouldn't mind calling them the Washington Greys after the Homestead Grays. I think the 'Senators' name is cursed . If they call them that it'll be 20 years until they move to Charlotte .

That might work in a country where generations haven't left their hometowns in 1000 years, but in the US, we tend get a lot of immigrants and move around to places without a professional team .

My parents were immigrants and they care less about baseball. So I had to guide myself (and picking a team based on who your parents liked is sooo weak ). And when people move to places without a professional team and then a new team moves in the area, you want to go to see the game and eventually start to like the hometown team.

Let me clue y'all into to an important fact. No Washingtonians are originally from Washington. Washington's population has quintupled in the last 30 years. This means you might persuade Washingtonian loyalties or you might get Washingtonians to the Senators games so that they can root for their original home teams.

Either way, this is not a problem.

Yes, but you fail to understand that the name 'Senators' is cursed. I mean, any team that moves, then gets an expansion team with the same name, who then moves, has something cursed about them!

And this is baseball we are talking about... where curses are real .

In all seriousness, if they put a stadium in Anacostia, it'll get the ball rolling on decisive change in Southeast. It would be nice to have something there in that part of town besides the Naval Yard and some bombed out buildings. Another ten or fifteen years and southeast will be safe for Yuppies

I read somewhere that the Texas Rangers actually retain the legal right to the name "Washington Senators," so I suspect some serious money will have to change hands to get the name back.

But I like the Washington Pork. Their mascot could be a huge pig in a top hat and tails, straight out of a Thomas nast cartoon.

I think the names were used intermittedly. Sports reporters would call them both. Like the Dodgers in the 20's were called the Robins, but really they were dem bums.

Edit: Did a little digging and they were officially known as the Nationals. Senators where a nickname as was Griffman and Nats. Amazing that for some reason everyone calls them the senators, now. I always though they had abandoned the the National name earlier. Thanks Imran.
