MLB Commisioner Bud Selig just gave approval for Montreal Expos to move to DC. The team will need to find ownership, a stadium, and a new name.

Here's what I came up with for a name:

Is there any question what the Washington Senators will be named?

One of the proposed new stadium sites was on the Senate side of Capital Hill (at the new New York Avenue metro station), which would have fit nicely. Don't know what the new site along the Anacostia will be like.

When I moved the Expos in MVP 2004 I called them the Washington Porkers.
I also thought about The Washington Campaign
The Washington Contribution.

But DanS is right they should and will be called the Senators.

Washington is a much different city than it was when the Senators were last in town. It is now the 5th largest MSA nationwide (5 million people) and can support a winning baseball team.

I just thought I'd mention that the Expos suck now and they have little in their future. Alot of people laud Omar Minaya but the core of good now gone players (save Vidro) were there before he got there. He really didn't do that much. He did have one hand tied behind his back, but he negotiated like he had both hands tied behind him. The only GM I'd rank below him is ?Littlefield? of the Pirates.

Personally, I'd have him tied with Littlefield, but still above Dan O'Dowd (Rockies), Chuck LaMar (Devil Rays, though there is something to be said for turning Zambrano into Kazmir AND another decent prospect), and maybe Dan Duquette (Mets), though the Mets' troubles probably have more to do with Fred Wilpon thinking he actually knows jack **** about baseball, let alone more than HIS OWN GM, than with any of Duquette's decisions.

As for renaming the Expos, I'd either go with Senators or "Washington Grays," after the Homestead Grays of the Negro Leagues. (seeing as the Senators did suck for most of their existence, after all, while the Grays did not... )
