I wonder where these perceptions of India as a poverty-stricken hellhole come from . It's a rather vey small minority that doesn't have roof over it's head . And given the recent economic upswing , the will , given the time .

Laughable at best. I'm not saying it is a hellhole. It is a culturally rich country. But it is poverty stricken. A very small minority don't have a roof over it's head? Somehow I doubt that.

India is an amazing place - I urge all of you to go there and see. It's about twenty years since I went there and travelled back in time it seemed thousands of years (in ways). Only about thirty years concerning motor-cars though - back in the eighties they were fifties types, with tiny variation and the vast majority were taxies. Now, the rich can buy up-to date-types, much as in the west. Wonder how much more has changed?
Hey, to think they can shoot great-big rockets into space and have gigantic armed forces equipped with latest form of devilry, including the big one.
A great power they are (much more than puffed-up-pathetic little UK - irony eh?). Don't know whether to love this (I love Indians) or despair, for evil people are there in plenty just like everywhere else. Was going to rant more about this India thread but previous sentence says stop.

Their armed forces is full of conscripts. It would be expected of a large military. The Indian Airforce is full of lousy MiG-21s..

...but before this, the above post by Giancarlo makes me say that I did not mean to imply that the IAF is anything like as wonderful as the mighty USAF, what with their mass precision bombings and all.
But back to more serious things. The above Rani, though totally gorgious, is a nothing compared to Rani Lakshmi Bai (of Jhansi). Lest I be thought of a traitor to my kind, the defence of the Residency at Lucknow (and the several reliefs of) was also a marvellous thing, though something quite different. There is so much more.
As I said, India is amazing. Hollywood, Bollywood.....whateaver fantasy.... are all rubbish.

I have a freind who got into a dance off with another guy at a (college) bar

he won

of course, I don't know if the other guy was gay or not
