Got spare money?

It's a bit of both -- some of us remember the threads just like this from before, like "I just slept with my boyfriend for the first time" which got a more realistic response. He then later retracted it, *****ed about how someone hacked his account, etc...

These days, people are just fairly sick of it and treat the threads as jokes. Part of it is to act as a deterrence for future such threads...

Hmm, what a mess.

Well, I only interact in here as far as Mill's good name is concerned then. : )

Seems the better part of valor is to not touch such threads with a 10 foot poll. The rare individual will (hopefully in a sincere way), and the poster should ideally learn that people will respond more when they post something that is true.

From what I read in this thread, he wants attention (he admitted it himself) and responding in such a way only feeds that unhealthy methodology of his.

What about your ridiculousy inconsistent anarchist opinions? They are not addressing reality.

That was back in 2000. This is 2004. A totally different time in my life. I was not sure enough of my sexuality when I was younger. That's a fact. And right now, I put this on myself.. there is no way I can refute what I said because I did post a photo of me and my boyfriend kissing. These days, I'm sick and ****ing tired of you asher. You are insulting and noneless then a liar.

The only thing that's different about you is you admit you are gay.

You're still the same kid with a complete inability to debate anything of substance, and still have a glaring inferiority complex.

That is the entire point of this...

Glaring inferiority complex? Is that yourself? And I have made some intelligent remarks on the recent debate with Bush and Kerry, and gave an analyse with scores. I have more then an ability to debate anything of substance. You just have a personal vendetta against me because you have an inability to drop the past. I know the type... you're have the memory of an elephant and you refuse to drop anything and forgive anybody. Why the heck do you even bother with a social life? I don't know why anybody would want to get along with you or get to know you.

It's why it's so easy to troll you.

Hell, for the longest time even calling you an Argintinian would send you through the roof.

This would've been so cool if you were talking about Elephant Memory. I would've been impressed, even.

It's true, I hold grudges for most people forever. Long story short, unless I consider you a friend/family/lover of mine, I don't give people much of a shot. If they blow it spectacularly, as you've done repeatedly, I write them off as a waste of time and just have fun with them.

And it's true, I never forget.

Because I'm actually easy to get along with, and to get to know, if you're not an idiot.

Many people have managed it.

I'm not a friendship slut, people need to earn it.

Well I guess you don't have many friends. And you have had a lover(s)? Since when? You? I'm sorry but I'm not going to waste any more time with you.

You? Easy to get along with? How is that when you admit you hold grudges against most people forever? How is that? You just contradicted yourself. You are a very difficult person to get along with.

You are the most unfriendly person on this forum. I find Joncha, Agathon and others more pleasant.

Nah, I'm easy to get along with for most people. Some people, particularly though that have proven themselves to be liars, untrustworthy, or otherwise scum, have a difficult time getting along with me.

Joncha is certainly very pleasant, and Agathon is also when he's not wound up about something.

I'm also pleasant enough with most people. Certain people, not so much.

As an outside, straight, non-drug using social libertarian - I helped my wife heavily with her 170 page thesis (80 pages text) j- Asher's references are excellent. Asher pwns Giancardo. (After seeing his post, if I ever get in a historical argument with Asher, I will be VERY careful to document ).

quote:

That doesn't not make them interchangeable in terms of significance, in terms of how ingrained they might be in someone's genetics or biology, or in any significant way.

Who said anything about significance? I was refuting his example, whereby he didn't account for that in any case! Note my caveat a few posts up.

quote:

There are different levels of desire, and some desires are more easily controlled or eliminated than others.

It could be twisted around and said that its easier to resist getting into a relationship than it is to, for example, resist nicotine. When you get into the question of whether or not something is easier to resist, you immediately encounter your own subjectivity, something Mill was alluding to from On Liberty.

"The only part of the conduct of anyone for which he is amenable to society is that which concerns others. In the part which merely concerns himself, his independence is, of right, absolute. Over himself, over his own body and mind, the individual is sovereign..."

quote:

So, in the strict sense, these two things are *comparable*, but they aren't equivalent or interchangeable in any signficant way.

As I said earlier, that is irrelevant as far as the state is concerned. Even classical utilitarians would refuse to work with the notion of comparable desires in the sense you are implying. Those that have run into problems and as such it is not taken seriously for a good reason. They call it consequentialism for a reason.

quote:

Oh, and Mill would agree with me; maybe you should go read him again.

Umm, I've studied Mill Sr and Jr for two years, while I'm no authority, in my more pretentious moments I might claim that I am in a better position to say who Mill agrees with .

quote:

I just don't think a thread where he is trying to share some personal aspect of his life is the place to be forcing such a debate. Everyone deserves a little space and deference here and there. Frankly, I think it was just a bunch of people who enjoy giving him a hard time--that's how it looks, anyhow.

You'll last about five weeks on the OT before the men in white suits take you away, and when you return you'll be as hardened as a marble statue of Mr T.

quote:

Well, I only interact in here as far as Mill's good name is concerned then. : )

Mill was good, but easily misunderstood. On impression I think you may have fallen into a consequentialist trap (though that is just my impression). Mill is not easily defined as such, it's healthier to say he was an early existentialist.

quote:

Seems the better part of valor is to not touch such threads with a 10 foot poll. The rare individual will (hopefully in a sincere way), and the poster should ideally learn that people will respond more when they post something that is true.

Seems you haven't grasped Mill's implications of human behaviour .

Hell, for the longest time even calling you an Argintinian would send you through the roof.

You can infer more from the words you write than what you actually just right. People can see you bawling and screaming at the other end.

I take life pretty seriously despite the fact I don't want to. But then again, what is the definition of 'getting somewhere'?
