Clemens is a great guy for baseball. Heck, he spent pretty much the entire all star break meeting fans and signing autographs and usually got only 4 hours of sleep at most. And he isn't getting paid that much either just because he wants to be in his home town and give the team a chance to do better than they have ever done, which he has accomplished. Clemens isn't in it for the money, he's in it for the game and the fans.

Yep... Clemens is a *****, always was a *****, always will be a *****. I know plenty of Yankee fans who were glad when Clemens left because they didn't like him either (well there were some that though because he was a Red Sox, he couldn't really be a Yankee or some nonsense like that). He's a horrible person and I damn any team that has him on their roster, whether it be Boston in the 80s, Toronto in the 90s, the Yankees in the 90s or Houston now.

I was anti-Clemens at first (especially because he replaced David Wells, and pitched poorly in '99). I was just shocked by the whole Piazza thing. I guess I sorta gave him a pass when he started pitching well WITHOUT throwing balls or bats at people's heads. And the whole "he's still good at XYZ years old, wow!" thing plays into it. What he's doing is pretty amazing, even if he is crazy. I dunno about "horrible person." I could see that for, say, Ty Cobb. But Roger? "Jerk" is probably appropriate. "Nutcase" as well. But I dunno if I'd go so far as to say he's a horrible person.

Lowe vs. Brown. Fugly for both teams, really. Although at least Lowe pitched well his last time out, whereas Brown didn't.

No, I don't think so (on perspective). I consider head-hunters to be some of the worst sort of people. The batter is defenseless and if you purposely throw a fastball at the batter's head (come on, Clemens has such great control and a ball gets away from him towards the batter's head every once in a while? Doesn't pass the smell test) then you are a horrible person.

This is also why I dislike Pedro Martinez so much. Yeah good pitcher, and yeah nice inside pitching, but he head hunts as well.

That's not true at all. Its only during Baseball season, and only really the hardcore ones at that (probably about 5% each). The rest on both sides really aren't as fanatical as you try to make them out to be. Personally, I NY; the only thing I don't are the Yankees.

First, who the hell are you to say whether or not a fan of any particular team should be as gung ho as they are. Like I said, vast majority don't. And its the same in NYC. I have gotten the middle finger or been shouted at on four (FOUR!) seperate occasions, and I've only been to New York five times. We have a ton of Yankees fans at my college, and the only time I've witnessed any of them being catcalled is while we're all watching the game in the dining hall (and they do the same thing!). My two best friends here are Yankees fans, and the only time we've gone out and been yelled at was by a Yankees fan.

I have no problem being 2nd in Salary, which is why I don't talk about it. In fact, I've only heard two people mention salary. One was LoA. We accept it. We accept that it may take Yankee money to beat the Yankees (and consequently any other team). But the simple fact is that money has provided for one of the best teams in MLB history. Emp Fab - may the best team win. The issues Yankees fans have with Red Sox fans and vice-versa aren't about which team you root for so much as they are about a certain type of person. And those people suck. I have lots of Sox fans as friends, I'm gonna marry one, ffs! The office is nearly evenly divided. And somehow we all manage to be civil to one another while still supporting our teams. Go figure.

Imran - I see your point about headhunting, but wasn't it Cobb who climbed into the crown to beat up a fan in a wheelchair? I mean, that's a whole special level of despicable.

Absolutely true. However, the following is also true:

Besides, Yankees fans do know failure. The Yankees, contrary to popular myth, do NOT win every year. They've lost the '01 and '03 World Series and were knocked out in the first round in '02. The '01 loss was particularly gut wrenching.

But I don't ask for sympathy for that. Clearly we've got it easier than fans of many, many other teams. But you know what? SO DO YOU, YOU WHINER!
