This is different. This time it is against the Red Sox, which makes it more unacceptable. The anger, annoyance, and shame are part and parcel of the fear of losing to the hated Red Sox.

Just look at LoA as an example- he goes appoplectic- he thinks mentioning payrolls is an indictment. This is the behavior of the deperate. We lost a WS last year- we will be contending for opne next year. I will be very happy to see the Soxs get crushed, but I know we will have a second chance next year.

I've known enough Yankee fans (remember I'm from Jersey) to know this is far from the truth. Maybe some do act like you. But plenty were very upset at the prospect of perhaps losing to the BoSox in last years ALCS. 3. Does ANYONE really remember the other 2 teams in other sports that came back from 3-0? Anyone? Its the totality of a team that makes them great-if the Sox win this series, the fact the Yankees choked in the last 3 games will hardly make their season historic, only their performance in one series- and that is NOT enough. Murdereres rows, the Boys of Summer- those teams will live long beyond these guys in the memories of baseball fans. If the Sox win this series, they will be a statistic, but nothing else about this team makes them even in the top 50 baseball teams of all times.

You are, quite frankly, the ONLY Yankees fan I've met who believes that (it isn't a hatred for the team, only their fans). From all I've seen there is equal hatred from the Yankees as there is from the Red Sox. It isn't a one way track.

Part of it is a defense mechanism. They rely on their history to convince themselves that they will pull through in the present. When in actually they have their doubts. There were plenty of Yankee fans sweating bullets when the ALCS went to Game 7 last year (antacid sales probably went through the roof in the tri-state area ).
