Years past? Fine...

They were dead last last year. They were 23rd in yards allowed in 2002. In 2001 they were 30th in yards allowed. In 2000, they were 23rd in yards allowed.

I think Miami only scored one TD that wasn't a trick play until garbage time. That was when Martz called his first defensive play, an all out blitz. He's even worse at defense than Marami (sp?).

You should have seen the game. I was over in the 3rd Quarter. And look at the stats... the Jets had 472 total yards with BOTH Curtis Martin and LaMont Jordan going over 100 yards rushing. The Fins went for 259 total yards... and a good portion coming from junk time.

In the middle of the 4th Quarter, the Jets put in backup Quincy Carter for his first work of the season and THIRD STRING RUNNING BACK, B.J. Askew.

It was a beating... and an amazing thing to watch.

I wonder why the Bears seldom find success with their quarterbacks. St. Louis has had tremendous success with two successive quarterbacks. Now we have a rookie in Pittsburgh making that team into a Superbowl favorite. The Bears could have drafted Culpepper. Instead they took McNown. The Bears could have drafted Leftwich. Instead they took Grossman who looked mediocre until he was hurt. I could go on and on and on. It seems given the law of averages that the Bears would get a good quarterback at least once in a while.

(Miller was good. But he was promptly suspended, then he got hurt. This is almost as bad as a Breek tragedy.)

Quarterbacks do not operate in a vacuum. You will never have a great quarterback unless:
The offensive line can give him time
He has a running game to balance out his passing attempts
He has receivers that can get open and adjust to blitzes

You can have a good quarterback with 2 out of 3. How many of the above to the bears have?

Just a quick note: In tommorow's MNF game, look out for #21 on the Colts defense, Bob Sanders. In his first NFL 3 quarters, he racked up 9 tackles at SS, sent Derrick Blaylock out of the game with a deep thigh bruise, and send Priest Holmes flipping and flying at the goal line, and landed on his head. The Colts finally have someone who can tackle... and boy can this guy tackle. He's like a human torpedo.
