Gnawing on your mind...

I'm posting this from the Candle'Bre forums regarding some serious health issues regarding Vel...I do not know all of the details though, but this has been something that we were aware of over the last couple of weeks.
This needs to be said. I apologize to Chris in advance if it upsets him that I have spoken out of line but I have been his friend for a long time, and I don't think he will kill me.
Right now, only the Candle'Bre team knows about his illness. I am sure that everyone must be wondering why the candle'bre forums are so quiet lately, but so far, no one has come out and said anything. I don't think Chris wants people to know just how sick he really is. He likes projecting the image that he is invincible, but I go see him every day in the hospital, and I see him laying there, wasting away. He has lost so much weight. More of his hair is falling out and the doctors say that there is no way to repair the damage to his pancreas. He is in good spirits, but he is also afraid.
Right now, he is on a morphine drip for the pain, and a lot of the time, he is not really all there, but every day he asks about the game and how its coming, and I see that there are questions being asked here. I will see if I can work with him and write down some of the answeres to these questions so we can keep everything going ahead.
Gil
I'm taking the same liberty as Gil in posting this here because of the very profound impact Vel has on this forum over the years. I appreciated his breakdown of SMAC even though it was a game I never could fully get into. And he loved CTP2 Cradle, and offered the same kind of breakdown for it that he did for SMAC (this is what actually ended up getting me involved in Candle'Bre - something that I know he never anticipated when he did his analysis). In my involvement in Candle'Bre, I've had the privilege to get to know a person who is talented, visionary, and creative beyond measure.
At this point in time, I do not care if Candle'bre ever gets finished. The investment of time is unimportant as the means to an end. It is the journey that matters.
I just want a decent and engaging person to get better.
Please keep him in your prayers and thoughts.
Dave

The only, THE ONLY reason I stuck around this forum when I first found it was because I encountered some very helpful, polite and positive people. It's very important to a newbie and I still remember it. Vel is the embodiment of the best a poster can be.
I hope he gets well soon.

I'm not sure of everything that is involved. A couple of weeks ago, we got the first post from Gil, who had gotten access to Vel's account info from Vel. Gil relayed to us that he was in the hospital with problems with his pancreas, and he said this was an issue that has bothered him in the past too. Gil said that it was nothing to worry about.
But then we got the post today. This sounds really bad. I really wrestled with posting this mainly because I wanted to respect Vel's (implied) desire not to have people worry about him. But Gil had gone ahead and posted the info - and Vel's impact on Apolyton is so much greater than just Candle'bre.
This site is his family too, and deep down, I think Vel would be greatly encouraged that so many people are thinking and praying for him during what may very well be a life-or-death crisis for him.
