Difference of opinion then.

He thought he could outsmart everybody by posting a thread insulting French people and then carry on his eternal crusade against the mods here, while in the proces taking a badly concealed stab at Jewish people and the folks who aren't as antagonistic against Jews and Israel as he is. It's about the only thing he does anymore.

And all he got from it all was the knowledge that somehow, mysteriously, Ming wasn't out golfing on a Saturday...

Oh for heavens sake, some of you people are so full of crap today. The thread was deleted because it was causing offense and upset, not least to me. If it wasn't, if people are robots and don't get offended about everything, then why not have complete free speech here? The reason is that we're not robots, we're people with sensitivities, as much as the male-dominated culture of geeky machismo here would like to deny it.

I explained earlier why people are likely to view it differently. With Mobius's example french joke, if the French had been subject to the holocaust or there were French people who don't want to come online every day and be reminded of such things... then that joke would also have been toast.

There was a case when Polish cavalry accidentally encountered panzers, and had to make its way out,
but the common thought at Apolyton that it was common, it is part of nazi Germany propaganda.

USSR suffered great losses, and I'm pity the families of the victims. But millions died in USSR anyway, and those millions that died during the war died due to Soviet politics.

Yes, because we all know how highly Hitler thought of the Russian people. He would never try to invade Russia Other than the fact that he didn't consider Slavs much higher than Jews, and the fact that the Soviet Union was huge and communist probably irked him slightly too

This isn't a nationalistic issue. I would have thought that it wouldn't have even mattered where they died..

And Germany is a different case. They're widely viewed as good at war. The point is that jokes are based upon stereotypes, and the problem with jokes is when they actually support those stereotypes rather than mock them.

WTF was a supposedly industrialised country doing with cavalry in the first place in 1939? Don't get me wrong, with the exception of the air force Britain wasn't much better in terms of technology that it was in 1918 but horses?

A badly concealed stab at Jewish people? Oh pull the other one. I certainly know that MOBIUS is not doing that. Like me, he has nothing against Jewish nor French people, but he does get irritated when a thread about Jews is opened as is treated in the manner it is, yet when a thread about the French is opened that is at a similar level of offence everyone is rolling around in laughter. He posted on CG simultaneously what he was doing so there is no grand conspiracy going on.

And Ming was playing golf on the saturday? Well I am sure that was recorded in MOBIUS's diary

And yes, there does tend to be a degree of hypocrisy here at times. I still remember that thread with the lines from comedies which had many comedies that may not have been familiar to North Americans but was familiar to Europeans. What did they do? Close the thread. It seems to me to be one rule for one and one rule for the other...ie, hypocrisy.

The Jews may have had the holocaust during WWII but bear in mind that the French didn't exactly get an easy time during the war If France isn't a taboo subject, why should Judaism be likewise except for some misplaced sense of political correctness...
