And the great thing is that once you buy the ToT game,
you can make a direct CD copy to use in your personal PC,
thus saving wear and tear on your original media!

I do this for my own use, and also have three original copies, just in case!

This is undoubtedly a very dumb question, but why are you good people talking about having a TOT CD in the CD drive.

I burned a copy of my TOT disk, used it to install TOT on my computer, created a shortcut to TOT on desktop, removed the TOT CD and replaced it with a copy of the CIV2 CD which stays permanently in the CD drive. Been merrily playing TOT and CIV ever since without changing the CD. What am I doing wrong?

@Leonidas
Before the uninformed hustle off to Wal-Mart, could you please write a few words outlining what are "Heroes 3" and "Silent Hunter Elite Edition" are all about?

@Everybody
Is there such a term as "semi-hijacked" which can be used to describe a thread?

My sincere apologies. I badly messed up the syntax in

What I intended was simply

"This is undoubtedly a very dumb question, but why does one ever need a TOT CD in the CD drive? "

as a lead-in to the paragraph that follows

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

The über-techy copy protection all CIv2 versions use is to check for a folder called 'Civ2' in the CD... So you could actually burn a CD with MP3's and an empty folder called Civ2, and it would work

As for the CD thing, I've got a no-cd'd version of MGE, and My brothers also use the computer, so I've actually got to get CD's out after I finish or they'll end up lying on the table...

Heroes 3 Complete:

This includes the game Heroes of Might and Magic 3 plus 2 expansions (Shadow of Death and Armageddon's Blade). It's a turn-based fantasy game that inludes 17 campaigns, 125 scenarios, a random scenario generator as well as having tons of user made campaigns and scenarios on the web.

Heroes 3 has a large strategy component that is tied to a chess-like tactical map where battles are fought.

Simply put, this is one of the very best games you can have in your collection. Along with Civ 2, this game has never left my hard drive.

And the price (under $10.00 is too good to pass up).

For more info:

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy...mightandmagic3/

Silent Hunter: Commander's Edition:

http://store1.yimg.com/I/greatdealssoftware_1832_332722

The Commander's Edition includes the original Silent Hunter plus all three patrol expansions.

Although the game came out in 1996, it is still considered the best WWII submarine simulation to date.

Command a WWII US submarine in the Pacific against the Japanese - and sink as much enemy tonnage as possible! Choose from a variety of American submarines - and let the hunt begin! Play historical missions, hypothetical encounters or a career based campaign game. Authentic WWII film footage, cinematics and narration provide a historically accurate feel for submarine combat.

This Special Edition is Loaded with Extras:

With its 9 Patrol Zones and 15 historical scenarios, SILENT HUNTER is the ultimate submarine combat simulator. Now imagine the award winning sub sim PLUS a powerful add-on scenario editor. Forty-five extra historical scenarios. Six new Patrol Zones (some of which are available here for the first time). And an exclusive article on submarine warfare by William `Bud' Gruner, who commanded the USS Skate in WWII. Imagine no longer.

Simulation Features:

Authentic WWII American sub classes include Gato, Balao, Tambour and Salmon.
Features detailed re-creations of over 40 merchant and capital ships of the Imperial Japanese Navy.
Highly accurate coastline models for 15 patrol zones - from the Solomons to the Sea of Japan. Coastal cities, ports and harbors have been reconstructed from period maps.
Weapons have been accurately modeled, and the Torpedo Data Computer (TDC) is the most accurate representation to date.
There is also a highly accurate day/night change-over in the game. Watch as the sun goes down and the moon and stars come out. Clouds will drift and the moon will change its shape (as per that time of the month).
You will be strafed by enemy planes and depth-charged by destroyers...

Here's What You Get in this Special Commander's Pack:

Silent Hunter: This award winning submarine combat sim is the best of its kind!

Patrol Disk 1 & Patrol Disk 2: Scenario editor, 30 additional historical scenarios and 4 patrol zones - Malaysia, Sulu Sea, Hong Kong and Vietnam!

All New Patrol Disk 3: 15 separate scenarios and 2 patrol zones - Aleutian Islands and Java Sea.

Requirements:

DOS: 486/66 DX2 (Pentium recommended), 16 MB RAM, 1 MB SVGA card, VESA driver, DOS v5.0 or higher, 2x CD-ROM drive, Sound Blaster family and 100% compatibles.

Heroes 3 Complete and Silent Hunter are really some of the best games (and best buys) available today. The fact that they are being re-released for a very low price says something about their popularity and gameplay.

After all these years I still play Heroes 3 and Silent Hunter.

Silent Hunter has a true dynamic career mode - stay out on patrol as long as you want: sink ships (including carriers and battleships), accumulate tonnage, be awarded medals, and earn upgraded submarines to command. Sail stealthily into Japanese ports (that are lit up at night). Heck, there are even Sampans in the game that will radio your location to Japanese HQs...

While the graphics are not the state of the art, the gameplay is still a blast...

Another Silent Service fan! Although I'm more a fan of the Atlantic theatre of war.

If you like sub games you should take a look at "Danger of the Deep" once. It is meant as open source version of Aces of the Deep. The graphics look very promising.

Tired of ads?

I can't count the hours I must have spent hunting Zepplin's and Gotha's in the original Red Baron. I loved it first and foremost because there are so few great First World War flight simulators out there today and even fewer back then.

I learned so many flight and arial combat principals from that classic. My favorite lesson was that you could only fire your machine guns in short and controlled bursts, otherwise they would jam every single time.

Being sort of a cheat, I checked 'Unlimited Ammo' and held down the space bar from the moment I took off, sending out an endless stream of bullets in every direction I turned. Of course, I stopped doing this once the insane number of friendly fire incidents nearly cost my career...

I was hoping to see a whole page of off-topic nonsense before intervening. Consider yourselves metaphorically ass-kicked

Oh well, might as well spam my own thread.....I was a big fan of Red Baron - great game. Like typhoon I was a dirty rotten cheat when it came to unlimited ammo What's Air Duel Typhoon?

Anyone played Sturmovik? I recently bought the Pacific sequal, which is a great game, but every now and then my damned computer reboots while playing Anyone else have that problem?

Oops, back on topic. I have a more or less complete set of graphics files for Red Front now. I'm tempted to post them now as an add-on to Catfish's ToT conversion, and leave the scenario rehash for a later date. What are people's views on this? Should I wait until the whole thing is finished?

Fairline, that is excellent news -

I would go for the the graphic update, to round off this epic quest;
And I am sure the tweak brigade will enjoy making changes to the game mechanics.

I think we all will like the ToT version of RF 1.4 that Catfish made anyhoo!

PS
An update to tech's site is great too.
