Not sure if this is the right place, or if anyone really cares, but...

In the database section for Civ2, your search filter is broken. Specifically in the modpack section, the initial list shows all files, but sorted by rating. I attempted several times to change this filter, but the only thing the filter produces is a search by name, 10 files, descending. No matter what options are chosen, this is the only way to reorganize the files. Pretty annoying when you're not looking for something that starts with a "w".

If this is a problem on my computer i would appreciate someone responding

The Upload feature eats spaces in names of save files. Perhaps in others too, I don't know, not having uploaded anything else. I need to put "_" instead, to make them names readable. Can this be fixed?

I am a Loyal Lifer and supporter of what I feel is a top notch and my personal Favorite website

I have been dedicated and have also learned much..(Hey got set down and put in time out) so I have learned to not talk back

I was reflecting on a special badge for those whom have met two criteria

#1-DIETY STATUS-changed to DEITY STATUS sorry about my spell errors

#2-LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP OF APOLYTON PLUS

I was thinking of maybe "ETERNAL" (to go along with both Deity & lifetime membership support)

The way I see it it is not so much to ask since we whom have chose to be active keep this site alive and well helping other , occassionally allowing a smile, smirk or snarl, and back our words with cash...by contributing to the overall welfare for all to enjoy a small price to pay

I believe this is due to HTML disliking spaces. IE, if you download something that has spaces in its name initially, a lot of sites will convert them to %20 ... which is why anyone who dl'ed illegal mp3's back in the day (like 1998 we're talking) probably had a lot of songs with names like man%20in%20the%20moon.mp3 and stuff like that

MarkG was kind enough to work it out so instead it just ate the spaces. Perhaps _ replacement would be better, but either way you can't have a space in a filename on a unix server, or as far as i know link to one via HTTP - unix based or not.

Thanks for the info, Snoopy. Now, if you could tell me, why don't the spaces get deleted in attachments? They seem to use a similar mechanism as the upload, don't they?

Not true. Unix file systems are very flexible for nameing. As long as you escape the names when you create them. You can have filenames as for instance \*. \>:;<{}()[]&^%,"'
If you have access to any unix enviroment you can try it out yourself.
Just run this command:

code:
echo hi > \*.\ \\\>:\;\<\{\}\(\)\[\]\&\^\%,\"'

then you can view the file with the comand
code:
cat \*.\ \\\>\:\;\<\{\}\(\)\[\]\&\^%,\"'

(autocompletion is recommended )

Hmm. I stand corrected. It's FTP and HTTP that have the objections, not the unix server. Been a while since I accessed a unix (non-windows or mac) server ... Although %20 is essentially an escape code for "space" (just not a / code)...

As MarkG says, attachments are not generally transmitted via Hyper Text Transfer Protocol, or even FTP. Mail protocols just don't seem to mind much ... although I have seen some weird things done by them (adding characters here and there, semi randomly...)

And my apologies Mark for making it unuseful ... I'll stop talking about it now

Tired of ads?

2 things:

- I'd like to add a note on the upload feature. When uploading files with a # in it (perfectly legal in Windows, for instance), the link beomes inaccessible (since it's interpreted as an anchor instead). URL encoding the download link should fix that. That would also help with the space thing.

- I know how to fix the irritating horizontal scrollbar people get in Firefox due to the Go(N) button. Change the alignment of the table cell the news drop-down is in to be left-aligned, instead of the right-aligned as it is now. I've tested the result in Opera 7.54, Firefox 1.0 and IE6.0 SP1. It doesn't break or change anything, except getting rid of that damn scrollbar.

Can you please add me to the list of pathetic whiners about this particular problem.

I posted a thread about this, but then I realized that this is the whinge thread.

On the other hand, it is the only thing (aside from the lack of new themes) that bugs me.
