It's almost impossible for me to say - most of my favourite games are from both genres. I'll just sit on the fence.

So the score is:

TBS - 3.5
RTS - 0.5

Or doesn't my 'half and half' vote count?

could you elaborate as to why you prefer TBS.... for me its the ability to think each turn to the max as opposed to having to react on instinct which i find is not always the best course of action i am sure others have different reasons.... not that i dont' like AOE and Star Craft as well though

TBS, of course. Why? Because I like to kick my feet up while I play games on the computer and RTS games are too frenetic for my preferred leisurely pace.

My memory is horridly impossible to keep solid.. I play rts games to help with that. In starcraft near the end of a game you have to know where 100 different units are at the same time.. good concentration builder too, I don't think a fire would distract me in a ladder game Because of this I noticed that I can read just as fast in a library as in a cafeteria.. coincidence? maybe..

I prefer tbs because I usually spend a lot of time going over every little detail every turn to make sure it's happeniing exactly how it should be.

I prefer TBS, as I like the leisurely pace, and the ability to be interrupted without losing anything. There is only one advantage that most RTS games have over most TBS games in my opinion, and that is simultaneous resolution. TBS games which have this feature (like pacwar etc.) are far more interesting than games that don't.

The Civ series are very interesting from a management perspective, but tactically they really suck. It is much more interesting to plan an attack which may fail for a number of reasons, and trying to anticipate these outcomes and minimize them than it is mowing down your enemy in your turn while his units are completely immobile. Against an AI opponent it is like stealing candy from a baby.

Simultaneous resolution is more interesting, more realistic and more challanging.

Definitely TBS at home, a full-lenght strat game is always TBS in my mind.

Otherwise if I have a 3D rage I go to the arcades or I play Dreamcast.

I generally avoid hybrid games ( meaning RTS ) between these two opposite genres: not enough replay value.

I definitely prefer TBS. In fact I prefer Turn Based in Role Playing Games as well (at least in battle Fallout Awe yeah!!). I always find that with RTS Im just following a set pattern and building as quickly as possible. Id rather sit and think and plan out the best strategy and I personally have a very hard time doing this in RTS.

Ahh thats why I love rts.. because its so hard to do that... granted vs. easy players you don't need much strategy, just run men at him... But today me and a friend took on a really good player and we LOST! Hehehe, the good player seemed to have direct control over every single unit all the time.. I just couldn't get a good hit in at all, and my partner was just defending. Now thats fun

I'd prefer tbs rather than rts, probably because playing a tbs games aren't as challenging or realistic as rts games. My heartbeat rate is a lot higher playing Starcraft than SMAC.

Realistic?!?! Yeah right. I have yet to play a "realistic" strategy game that wasn't using cardboard counters on hex maps.

I don't care the least for RTS clickfests. I did play and enjoy Dune 2, but haven't enjoyed the Mechwarrior or C&C series.

Yes, rts games are more realistic than tbs. The real world is in real time. When we move around or do something, we don't take it in turns.
