WE RIDE!

Ok, a grand total of 70 CoD units have moved to Simian Deep9.

127 gold, +40.

I'll send a message to Octavian informing him our move.

How about that for a synchronicity? The largest engagements between units on a single turn in both the DG1 and DG2 are about to happen at the same time! Amazing.

I hope Python move to SD9 now. Otherwise we definately get to recieve all of the poop that the monkey flingers can hurl. They can also put almost all their NMs in SD (they could have 40-50 by now with the GA and all the pop-rushing. With Monkey healing btw CoD and Python turns, we won't take SD easily, if at all. At least our 15 horsemen will keep 3-4 NM in Mandrill and Orangutan, but we could end up damaging masses of numids but killing only a few.

Got spare money?

That's the worst case, yeah.

SD8 would be the tile we want Python to go to, IIRC. We're on SD9.

Cort,

What is your status on turnplaying? Are you going to take back over at some point? Or is it on me for a while. I'm ok with playing the way I've been - which is pretty fast 'n loose, but I fear I might not be giving the turns the full attention they (might) deserve.

Speaking of which, I was just thinking: should we now cut our saltpeter off? Next turn we build a spearman in Silkfest. It can be upgraded to a musket. At that point we will only have 1 spearman left, and he's in the main invasion stack. We should probably cut the saltpeter so:

1) it doesn't bloody deplete
2) we can build more spears if we like

Now I feel stupid, because IIRC I ordered workers to mine the saltpeter tile to get more shields for New Plymouth (which IIRC I ordered to build an aqueduct). That work will be wasted if we cut the saltpeter. Silly me, 6 worker turns down the drain.

Yes, I can play the turns again now, thanks Arrian. In fact, I could have played the previous one had you not been so quick! Sorry for not making it clear.

OK, let's cut the SP now we're done with upgrading.

I wondered on the previous turn thread about heading west before turning south and arriving adjacent to two cities instead of one, but you seem confident of the direct approach to have moved accordingly, Arrian.

Next turn, assuming we're still there, how do we attack? Do we ping with the cats then charge with LB? What about horses? I'd be happy using them against redlines or two-spots but I fear we'll still be facing 4/4 NMs at that point. If so, Mandrill may be weak so we could fling the 15 horses at it instead. Or just 'hold the horses' this turn.

Cort,

Yeah, I looked at the situation on the save and just made a judgement call that the direct path to PC was the way for our stack to go. I'm hoping Python can swing westward a bit, after we take down SD. We also have a combat settler with us which can be used to give us some added mobility, don't forget.

As for next turn...

Clearly fire all cats. At that point, it depends on what we see. If we still see 4/4 numids... yikes. I'm assuming the walls will go down.

The question is does it makes sense to use our horsemen as psuedo-catapults - run them in and hope they take a hp or two off and then run away. The alternative is to hold them for use as finishers against 1/4 or even 2/4 numids.

The first way reduces the casualties in our longbow force, but will definitely cost us some horsemen. The second way will increase our longbow casualties, but save us some horsemen.

What we probably need is to look at this scientifically - using a combat calculator of some kind (hopefully one that includes retreat chance). I don't have one, but I know there are some available.

Also, let's not forget that in a pinch our musketmen can attack 1/4 numids.

My gut instinct, w/o looking at a combat calc, is to lead with the horsemen if there are healthy numids showing, to try and soften them and finish with longbows.

There will surely be NM's remaining if they don't attack one of the stacks. As we have 22 catapults, and they will have over 30 NMs, and if half the cats get a pip we could be looking at over 20 4/4 NMs remaining. Even with a few successes with horses (and promoted NMs) each LB would still face full strength defenders. If we destroyed 12-15 defenders with the LB Python might be able to finish them.

H_E is saying that they could destroy either stack. Spending the Numids to do that might ironically give the other stack a chance of success. Maybe we'll open the save to find our income has risen to 110gpt and Monkey own another 22 cats!

The trouble, I think, is that we only have 9 defenders in our stack. Sure, 8 are musketmen, but Python may have been smarter to simply have more - even if most are spears. They can eat up attacks and absorb bad luck better. The poop flingers may be able to beat up our muskets bad enough to have numids take them out. Then we're in deep ****, literally.

Oh well, we'll see.

Full PM-box? Change here!

Add a spear and a sword for 10 vet units with >1 defence. To take two HP of each is 20 successful pings - quite possible from 40 cats. They may lose a few NMs killing off the >1 defenders, leaving over 10 NMs below full strength before feasting on the 1 defenders - including the elite warrior and the horses. The horses are fortified, right? So they'll take hits before the archers (another 15 NM's used) and they obviously have another 20+ attackers to kill the LB (and capture the cats - aargh!). So they have around 50 NM and 40 cats before the battle.

Even with many NMs beaten-up while destroying us, Python can only kill about 30 at maximum, suffering their own casualties. Monkey's remaining 25NM plus now-maybe 55-60 cats will heal to attack Python's damaged stack next turn.

This is surely a nightmare.

No, actually they won't heal for next turn, as they will have moved this turn, so they can't attack Python full-strength.

Suffering from ads?

Let's see how it goes this turn before we assume the worst.

Worst comes to worst, we may end up having to seek peace (at least until Cavalry!).
