350BC - last directions for the Emperor Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

To assure that the Senators of Rome are aware of the current plans for The Empire, I, the Emperor, would like to ask some questions. Please answer them briefly, as time is of the essence.

You migh want to review the writings from our discussion and some other thoughts before you answer.

Please note that some of the answers contradict themselves. Caution is advised, as the Emperor won't ask again. If votes don't show a clear path, I shall choose one on my own. Also, I'm not asking about obvious things, like whether to attack Carthaga or whether not to attack the Macedonians - those have been answered clear enough.

Oops I guess my post got in before the other thread was closed.

I'll repost incase it's deleted.
...

Dear First Emperor,

Please keep in mind my inexperience at this level but my vote is for:

-Selling Mathmatics all round.

-Trading surplus Iron to Eqypt (maybe after a couple turns so they have some gold).

-Founding both cities suggested by Senator McMeadows, plus maybe a third on the forest at Neapolis 333 (but maybe this will stunt the growth of the other cities too much, I don't know).

-Invasion plan: Sicily then the Cathage mainland. For now atleast, Cathago is their only city connected to Iron, though I guess this will only be for a few turns. I do think the Cathage islands are a better prize than no prize at all, so if the mainland is out of the question, I would settle for the islands.

All glory to Rome!

Of course we do that. It's a no-brainer, if they don't get Math so not needed in the poll. If they do get Math, we keep the Iron for trades later.

I'm putting in the plan for settlements in the build queues thread. It's too many options to put in a poll.

I lile the plan of allying with the Celts early while we tackle sicily. Then - after 20 turns, we pound the celts. I believ Senator Conius initally proposed this, and it had support from others.

I am tempted to use the army now.

Got spare money?

If you don't like an option, don't vote for it. It will show soon enough if it gets few votes. And it simply won't become a part of the strategy then.

That makes two od us about the army. Still very few, that's why it didn't get it's own place in the poll - more Senators have said they don't want it. But worry not. We can have Legions II in a couple turns (less than 10, for sure) and fill it then.

I'm not for or against the attck vs. the celts and for building a great wonder. I don't think we should try with two wonders.
Maybe the war with the celts should start some in the next term - when we have at least 3 legions stacked to attack.
And after the first troops building we should try to build more cities.

A remark for wonder building. Rome can build a temple in 3 turns, which will allow us to get a notch off the hapiness slider. Then Rome will be perfectly ready to build a wonder.

I would suggest using the army stacked with Leg I to subject the Celts to our laws. Or just burn them down and have citizen colonize the new, open lands.

Initial city placement suggested in build sequence thread.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Once attack is in action, the Sicilan Islands seem to be the obvious choice. Because...

1. We deny them a launch site to attack us
2. I would assume they have fewer chances to have multiple allies
3. Once there is no where else to grow, welcome them to our
Empire

Thank you fellow Senators

Generally build Legions and some workers first, but Roma could use a Temple quickly so it can start a wonder.

Attack order: Silicy [capture cities intact], Carthage [raize!], other Carthengian islands until they talk with us and are willing to give us the remainder of the islands in exchange for a 20 turn cease fire. In my opinion, Carthago must be destroyed!

I'd like the first attack on the Celts to commence shortly after the cease fire with Carthage begins. But be sure we have enough Legions in place to cripple the Celts before attacking them.

I don't like the sell Math to everyone on turn 1 plan. It would be much more useful to save this tech to sell to the first AI that reseraches something we don't have. Sign a GPT deal to get Dyes from Persia instead.

Well, Senators, it seems that two decisions are most favored. Thus, training more Legions will be a priority and the knowledge of Mathematics shall be sold to other nations.

As much as I insisted, you still weren't careful about the options I gave you. It seems to me that some Senators have chosen more than one decision concerning our plans against Carthage (the "attack order" options). What you will get from this i my own will coming on top, of course. Divide et impera, as was once said by a very wise man.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Guys, guys, I have to say you're missing the most important point! WE HAVE ONE WORKER ONLY!!!!!

For the first few turns, we MUST invest in many many workers, so that when our cities grow, we increase our production and commerce power. Then we will have sufficient production to build our military. Ignore Workers, and we risk falling behind early.

I suggest building predominantly Workers for the first 10 or 15 turns until we have an average of about 1.5 per city.

The one in Padua.....settle 336 of Padua on the fish peninsular

The one in Rome.....settle 66 of Rome

The one in Napolis.....999 of Napolis

It is all good

I'm counting 18 votes total and 6 votes for each of the three attack options for another total of 18.

Now we do seem to be evenly divided into three factions, so you'll have to make the call if we don't get a wave of late votes.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Based on what inferstructure we have already and the ability of Legions to add new roads when not doing anything else, plus the atticipated slaves from capturing Silicy, Sardina, and Corscia [4, 1 for Western Silicy, 1 in each town in Sardina and Corsica ] and raizing Carthage (2 - 3), I think that 1 worker per city is sufficent. So I would not be opposed to having all cities except Roma build 1 worker each [and the new cities building a Garrision followed by a worker] but after that I see a much higher priority for Legions.

Tired of ads?

I was thinking about dividing the build. Many core cities can start Legions and have them ready after 5 or less turns - for the next Emperor to use. Cities farther away from Rome could provide Workers, possibly making two. This way we could have the second wave of Legions out faster.

There's one thing about slaves - they work slow. We will have many Hills and Mountains to improve and Forests to chop, so I suggest we prepare loads of Workers. Padua could help, since the huge food surpulus gives little options for other builds (at least until it has some Mines around).

On City sites:

I like Roma 6-6,
like Padua 4-4,
and love Padua 8-8-8

Don't like Pauda 9-9-9-8-8, [no free aquaduct]
hate Paudua 9-9-9-9 [no free aquaduct and too close to other city sites I like]
Don't like Pauda 9-9-9-9-6 [no free aquaduct]

I'd also love either Roma 8-7-7-7 or Roma 8-7-7-7-7
The second goes better with Pauda 4-4 would lose us a forest-chop. (I hope everyone has played RoR as Rome at least one turn so I didn't spoil anything.)

Don't care for Padua 3-3-6 at this time.

I'd want to see a screen shot of the area around Napolis 9-9-9 before judging, but my gut instinct is that the sites around the rivers in Northen Italy are better.

Suffering from ads?

I use slaves in stacks of 3 on the mainland and Silicy. That way the stack is just as fast as one normal worker.

On Corscia and Sardina, I just let the tile improvement be really slow. Sardina's main importantance is the local Spice + denying any other civ a jumpoff point to Italy.

If you use the Numpad to move your units, you use numbers to denote the directions. For example:

8 is north,
6 is east,
2 is south,
4 is west.

For example, if I'm talking about Padua 9999, I mean the place 4 tiles north-east of Padua. As if I had a unit with unlimited moves and hit the Numpad 9 key four times - that's where the tile under consideration is. I hope that helps.
