What's your favorite country to play in EU2? Support Apolyton, buy Civilization 2

I started out loving Spain and Austria but these two were so powerful that it took much of the fun out of the game. So I moved on to playing second tier powers like Venice, Denmark, and Novgorod. These were more challenging but still became predictable even with the AI on the hardest setting thus I once again had to move on.

Now I'm trying nonEuropean powers like Ethiopia and Rajputana. They are hair pullingly hard to play well unless you cheat or loan shark but they aren't impossible. Try being the only Hindu state completely surrounded by richer & larger muslim states. That's fun but not my favorite.

No, that honor would have to go to either Byzantium or Suizdul. Both of these are small powers with big potential to become major powers if properly played though the road will not be an easy one.Next I think I will try a Kingdom of Jerusalem game (I've never actually finish a KoJ game) or maybe a game as Crimea. If I really wanted to punish myself I could conquor the Crimea as Genea and convert it to Catholicism before releasing the Crimea. The goal would be to conquor all the mongol cultured proviences and convert them before the end of the game. Any what that's one of my ideas for the future.

In 1.05, Ottomans and Byzantium is the favourites.
In thje latest patch(silly Paradox made the game much more difficult), Byzantium is unfortunately out of the question for my skills, so I usually play medium to great powers, no particular favourite.

Malacca was fun- I set up an Indonesian colonial empire.

Of the Huge powers, China I think gives you the biggest challange, not from outside, but come the nasty internal collapse.

Actually playing my first time as Byzantium, and I'm pretty sure it'll stay my favourite even after I've tried others.
It starts very small, in a VERY difficult situation (entirely surrounded by an hostile power quite more powerful than itself...), has an extremely glorious past, and can have a bright future.

I think I'll love France too, but it'll probably be partially because of some nationalistic love ^^

I read that thread and found it to be very interesting. Unfortunately, I don't think he could do the same in 1.08 as things have been made much harder.

I think He's made a thread about his Lorraine game once?
Or/and claimed that lorraine is the best, because it has both German and French culture?
hm...

Sweden, as someone claimed (I don't know) is enough big, has good strategical position, and a lot of good generals.

He's been known for his great love for Lorraine since EU1.

Akka: No, I think of the OE. Having few provinces does not disqualify for great power status, it's the easiness and especially the potetial that counts. OE is one of the easiest countries to play in EU2, you are almost doomed to become a great power with it.

England is a good nation to play as, but the island status means you can't get the contiguous territories bonus (or rather non-contiguous territory penalty)
