Let me point out that if they have a nuclear bomb, most likely it's a dirty bomb and not a thermonuclear (fission) weapon.

I agree. If they really are fighting an ideological war, they'll chose targets with ideological meaning. Texas would be a top priority for them for two reasons:

1. It's Bush's home territory, and the center of his base of supporters.

2. It's the state most associated with the US oil industry.

As for Chicago, Bush is extremely unpopular there. So if they want to hit Bush supporters, that's not the place to go.

Certainly al-qaeda does not havce the technical capability to build a nuke of its own. They would have to steal one. Perhaps someone should ask Pakistan to check its stockpile.

They don't have it but they are trying to capitalize on the cultural divide that has been exposed between rural and urban America. They are trying to pit us against each other but unfortunatley for us we are already pissed at each other anyway.

However our Dear Leader gave them a nice head start by exposing the rift between us and the rest of the world by brilliantly invading Iraq.

What happens if you too willingly give up your Freedom was shown in 1933 and the years thereafter.
The fire in the german Reichtstag gave the german chancellor Hitler the chance to pass an emergency law, which, as he stated it, was determined to catch those terrorists who dared to set fire on the Reichstag and to restore order in Germany.
It was an important step towards the Nazi dictatorship, as the law disbanded the german Reichstag, the institution which could have prevented Hitlers rise to power and the murder of millions of innocent people, and empowered him to do whatever measures he thought to be necessary to restore order, practically disbanding all citizens rights.
He used this at once by incarcerating all political enemies he had (like for example the socialist and communist parties) and persecuting all people who could pose a danger to him (for example the remainders of the free press).
