No, Hardees is selling its products great. The consumer trends point to a backlash from the health food crap of other fast food places!

Any evidence for this? Retreachment amongst the big players in the field?

Are you a loyal customer of any of them? With what frequency do you visit these places? And the "healthyness of each of these types is very different.

Well this is just for 1st Q of 2004 (haven't found other info).

CKE Restaurants (NYSE: CKR), which operates the Hardee's and Carl's Jr. chains, last night reported fiscal first-quarter financial results that should please investors. The company said same-store sales at both chains improved year-over-year, and profit margins improved despite the rising meat and cheese costs that other chains, such as Papa John's (Nasdaq: PZZA) and Bob Evans (Nasdaq: BOBE), have bemoaned.

I'd say Quiznos sees me quite often. And yes, the healthyness is very different, but that doesn't mean they ain't fast food .

'Real meals' can pale next to a nice hamburger . Maybe I'm wrong to assume you've ever tasted a Thickburger? Better than a vast majority of burgers on the backyard grill.

I was driving across I-90 in Ohio this past Sunday and stopped for lunch. The only choice was Hardee's. I wasn't enthused.

[digress] Back when I was a college lad (70s), Hardees had a rep as a low-rent Macdonalds -- burgers were smaller and cheaper. You went there when you had the craving but were pretty broke. As I usually was.
[/digress]

So imagine my surprise when I walked in and found that the SMALLEST burger was 1/3-pound. AND that there were two BIGGER sizes on the menu.

Amazing.

I think the anti-diet vibe is a great marketing gimmick.
The place was full of guilty-pleasure seekers.

Since when do good profits for a mid-sized chain all of a sudden equal a massive consumer backlash? Whan McD's, BK, and Wendy's stop adding salads and one up themselves with heart-busting new offers, then you can talk.

Correct- so the point of fast food is not just high fat, as you claimed.

No, I have never had a "thickburger", since I have said, I do have some moderation every so often. Of course, I also eat Chicharron (deep fried pork skins, in Panama fried in Lard) or Lechon (slow roasted garlic infused pork.....), or fried pork with fried Yucca....YUM! (Thought I forget how religious you are and whether you ever have any pork products).

It's just the start. Hardees is picking up the slack and soon the McD's will know they got to go back to those people. Their Big Mac, after all, is their best selling item.

It's called a niche market. Oh, and Fries are McD's biggest seller, always have been.

The taste of a hambuger is not based solely on fat content. Supposedly In an Out burgers are thin patties.

4 ounces of beef with some fat is different from 9 ounces of beef with fat. The issue with these burgers are not that the meat is no lean- its the huge amount plus the bacon and cheese.

Actually, I have. You just are nuts to think a patty of ground beef, even a top notch one, can be a pinnacle of good tasting food.

A niche market is being in the top 10 chains? And are we not counting the fact that BK sells a ton of Whoppers and McD's sells a ton of Big Macs?

I'll post it again, 'fries are a side'... so what? They are also probably less healthy than any burger they sell... that gives them their good taste.

So don't eat it. Plenty of people will to make Hardees turn a profit.

As the article you yourself pointed out, those don;t come close to this monster. And even most Hardees customers won;t be having this monster.

quote:

I'll post it again, 'fries are a side'... so what? They are also probably less healthy than any burger they sell... that gives them their good taste.

Fries are not just a "side" I bet a lot of people buy some "healthy" item and a fries too. And yes, they used to be pretty unhealthy, as they were ocne cooked in beef tallow-but after lawsuits from vegetarians and hindus and so forth they now use vegetable oil.

quote:

So don't eat it. Plenty of people will to make Hardees turn a profit.

Since when is this a "don't eat it" issue? You claimed some imagined customer backlash against healthier food at fast food locals. Thats the arguement.

quote:

It seems like you really haven't had a good burger. If you've never had a craving for a thick, juicy burger then I shudder to think what you consider a 'good burger'.

Satisfying a craving is different from saying a burger is better than some real meal- of course when you have a craving something will taste good- that is not to say that if I have a craving for peanuts, I will claim good peanuts are the best food EVER....

What a whimpish little burger

No, if you want a big burger, then try the "BUGGI dobbelt bacon-cheese" at http://www.densortegryde.dk if you ever come to denmark.

That thingie weight 1.8 Kilo (3.6 pound) and it doesn't cost more than 59 Kr ~ 7.4$. Sadly enough, they only have the price list - no pics, but then, you'll problably need a 21" screen to see it all
